Easier to camaflage themselves?So hair doesn't get caught in anything or its a tradition. But i suppose to help them keep cool makes the best sense.

Very few marines actually shave their heads bald, most of them are balding any way. But Marines have much tighter grooming standards than the other services, and most people just go ahead and keep it short, especially in the summer months. I've been out for five years, and I still keep mine short, just for the convenince.
Granted, I no longer get a haircut every saturday and any other time my Gunny wanted to comlain about my hair, but it is much easier to manage and it looks much more professional, in my opinon.

Marine life is altogether different than the land-life.
The weather conditions, humidity, no Plantation/greenery, strong breeze and dust-free environment are un-natural conditions for human beings.
We and our physique are used to the land environment where most of the things are different than the sea environment hence the difference and effect on hair growth like baldness.
It does not happen with everyone, there are many who get immune to the marine environment but still many don't accept it.

Not only is a close haircut necessary for hygiene in the field, where showers are few and far between, the regular trimming of head and facial hair makes the gas mask much more efficient in keeping them alive.
