The 1989 St Leger was run at Ayr on 23 September after they found problems with the course at Doncaster (a hole appeared in the track if I remember rightly).

The race was won by the 6/4 favourite Michelozzo, ridden by Steve Cauthen and trained by Henry Cecil.

There were 8 runners in total with Sapience, Roseate Tern, Terimon, blazing Touch, N C Owen, Alphabel, and Skisurf completing the line up.
