My Mum is really hard to buy for and doesn't like ornaments and things that have no use so I quite often buy her a gift voucher for a massage, haircut or even to a nice restaurant. A favourite shop of hers is always good too then she can get what she REALLY wants or needs. If your Mum's adventurous, why not shout her a helicopter ride or sky-dive? That'll be one present she'll never forget!

If she likes smellies, get her a nice Molton Brown set or something from The Sanctuary to pamper herself with.
Or does she have a particular interest that you could buy her a book about, for example my mum loves films so its always an option to find a book related to that.

Or just be sure to get everybody home for christmas.
Diamonds are fail proof.
Cooking accessories. ( Do not get a new iron, give one to your Dad but not your Mom. )
If she is still not into mp3 players, get her a ipod shuffle or something simple, nothing that will scare her, and help her to upload her favourite songs into it.
Finally, get some DVDs, preferable some popular series, like Desperate housewives if she likes them, or try the popular Korean series, Da Chang Jin, with english subtitles.
