Here are a few basic beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Hopefully this will help you. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Saviour of mankind. We believe that there were more prophets than the ones in the Bible (which we DO believe in, despite what you might hear). The Book of Mormon is the writings of ancient prophets that lived on the American continents. It contains the same principles and doctrines that the Bible does. We believe that after the death of Jesus' apostles, there was a falling away, apostacy, from the whole gospel. Parts were still around but not the whole truth. We believe that Heavenly Father and Jesus called a new prophet in 1820, named Joseph Smith, to restore the fulness of the gospel. We believe that since that time there have been prophets on the earth. The current prophet is Gordon B. Hinckley, the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (The official name of the "Mormon" church) We believe that marriages and families can be together forever(Instead of "'till death do you part")

Mormons believe that around 500 BC a small group of people sailed to the Americas. A new testament of Jesus Christ was written (By Nephi and then many other authors as time passed). Eventually the gold plates that the testament was written on was to be burried by Moroni to be later recovered by Joseph Smith and translated
Some of their beliefs are that:
* Jesus came to the America's shortly after his ressurection.
* Jewish people settled in the Americas 500 BC.
* Joseph Smith was a prophet that translated the golden plates into the Book of Mormon.
* That the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints is the one true Church restored as Jesus Christ meant it to be.
* That after a person dies they will be in a spirit world to be reconditioned to go to heaven.
* There are three levels of heaven. The lowest is the Telestial, then the terrestrial, and finally where God dwells is the Celestrial.
* The only way to go to Hell (perdition) is by ultimately knowing that Jesus is your saviour and still denying him.
There are so many more to list. Christians are often outraged by Mormons and believe they are a bunch of gullible twits. I think that all theists are pretty Gullible and Christians do not have much room to make a mockery of other religions.

Mormonism is following the teachings of Joseph Smith. The Bible talks about God being a one of united parts. Mormonism worships 3 gods. The last president spoke on the subject and said that their God is not the same one as found in the Bible.
Christianity talks about salvation by accepting Christ as Savior. Mormonism says many contradictory things about salvation.
I don't know what slating them means.

It's a religion founded by Joseph Smith, based on the Book of Mormon, which Smith wrote. They claim to be a branch of Christinaity, but Christians follow the Bible, not their own book. Essentially, they believe in living 'purely' and moralistically.

Lds.org is a good place to know what we believe.
In my words:-
"Mormon" is a nick name, because we have the book of Mormon.
"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints" is our official name.
We are not originate from catholic or protestant. We believe God call Joseph Smith to restore the church as like the church set up by Jesus Christ in his ministry days.
The Book Of Mormon we use is another testament, another witness to Jesus Christ. Book of mormon do not replace the Bible.
Both books work together to testify of Christ.
We believe our church is leading by a living prophet just like the ancient time.
LDS work and live like ordinary people, we do not use drug or alcoho for fun. We have only one wife, we work for a living,
we supports boyscouts.

A guy who believes the founder of mormonism could translate 30 or 40 characters into a book of several thousand words with the aid of "magic spectacles" the angels gave him. The book of mormon says that Americans are the chosen race - so whatever they do is OK by God. I can see why it is so popular in your country (assuming you are a US citizen).

Mormons believe:
God is our Father
Jesus is our Christ
And God has living prophets on the earth today as He did in Old
Testament and New Testament times.

They have the courage to preach their message door to door which is more than most religions can say. For that, they have my respect.
