To address the issue of the "Buddhists" you saw being aggressive...
They weren't Buddhists at heart. It doesn't matter what they label themselves as.

Also, it's a stereotype that Buddhists are passive and happy people. I've known some people that are Zen monks, and often, they felt the weight of the world. One person had a very fiery personality, however, upon knowing him better you could see he always cared about the people he knew. He did a lot for people and didn't wait around for a trophy for it.

I hope this answers your question.

You're right.

The story of peaceful Siddhartha is mainly fiction. So don't take it too literally.

Religions unfortunately are all the same. They say one thing but so many of their followers practise mostly the opposite.

Same goes for India, with its famous Ahimsa (non-violence). Not true at all. I spent 2 whole years there and I know what i'm talking about.

Religions are a big fetter to real liberation. Since you ask about Buddhism, I could tell you the main thing we can actually learn from it is to SEE THINGS AS THEY ARE. That goes for people, the universe....

Actually Buddha is quoted as saying: "Amongst the violent, let us live in peace".

Love & Peace to all! Enjoy!

As far as I'm aware, most religions promote peace and love. It is a shame that some people claim to be part of a religion, yet promote hate and violence in the name of their God or Messiah.

I have never been to Asia, but some of the Buddhists I know are bitter, angry people. I also know some Buddhists whom are calm, humble, loving, understanding, and tolerant.

It's human nature, and cannot be avoided. It would be nice if we lived in a peaceful world, but it's never going to happen.
