You must have seen the edited version. In the uncut edition, he's always bumming Ron over an altar to the antichrist and tagging the walls of Hogworts with the mark of the beast.

There's nothing wrong in anyway with the Harry Potter books or movies. The problem is with people. The vast majority of people(I realize this is a large generalization) who condemn the Potter books are inconsistent within their own minds. They have jumped on a band wagon without the slightest idea of who's driving or where it's going. They just jumped on because someone told them to. Now I get to the part I hope makes at least one or two people very mad. If the Harry Potter books are bad because "the bible says witches are evil" then the books about the land of Oz are also bad. Glenda says she is a good witch, but if all witches are bad she is either lying, naive, or just stupid. If Harry Potter is bad, so is Lord of the Rings. Since magic is bad Gandalf can not be a good wizard. He like Glenda is either lying, naive, or stupid. On to the Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe. Since all things magic come from the dark one himself such things as talking animals and various magical weapons are also bad. Now for the real kicker. I have no problem with the above stated view on that all magic is bad. Please mind though I'm NOT saying magical fantasy is bad. I'm just saying I don't have a problem with that point of view. At least it is consistent. The problem I have is with the narrow minded(but horribly misguided) people who say Harry Potter is bad while embracing the Wizard of Oz, The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia. If you are going to make a stand at least be consistent within your own mind.

Just for those who are curious, I am a Christian. I like the Harry Potter books. I'm an old Dungeons and Dragons nerd although I don't not have the time or inclination to play anymore. All I want is for people to think about the consistency of their position.

Peace Y'all.

Most fairy tales and fantasy don't sell in billions of copies like harry potter so Christians (not all just the nut bars) use the potter phenomena to there own devices but they are so wrapped up in the wrongs of the world that there own faith is warped to the point of not being effective

So maybe these persons should go back to there faith and stop involving themselves

why do many faithful and the pope say that harry potter is a horrible perversion of the story of christ?

harry potter is a fantasy book. the topic deals with tolerance and prejudice and fighting against evil with magic.

harry potter's protestors are reading voldemort's rise and return to life as a parallel to christ's rise and return to life. if this was so, then harry potter would be a vindictive book indeed. but, the fact stands that it is a children's book that attempts to teach the lesson that muggles and wizards are no better than one another and must join together to fight the common cause of evil. (that is the parallel that rowling draws to modern day.) everything in children's lit is not about christ.

lion, witch and the wardrobe is, no question. harry potter is not.

you are so right! I hear people complain about the harry potter books, the magic etc. and comment on how wrong reading them are yet these are people who, chances are haven't even read one page and allow their children to watch disney movies such as "the little mermaid", "cinderella" etc..all of the disney cartoon movies that I've seen have "magic" in them.... now I ask you.. what is wrong with this picture? the fantasy and magic that are in the disney movies is no better or worse than that in harry potter...those books are very well written and they can capture the imagination of even some kids who usually have no interest in reading... I know... my youngest daughter was one of them.. but she has managed to read every harry potter book written today... and to me, any book that can do that is doing something good...

NOTHING. Harry Potter is not out there recruiting people into the world of magic, just getting children interested in the world of good stories and reading, heaven forbid. Even the Bible has accounts of magicians, ie pharoh's magicians, and yes they are defeated by God. Those who waste their time going on about the evils of Harry Potter should invest their time in finding ways to make disciples, not go on and on about how society is falling apart bec of stuff like Harry P.

"The Story Harry Potter actually Promotes Witch Craft among Children.
To have supernatural powers to be able to do something which other do not have power is something else... But in the Story it shows that these powers can be got from witch Craft...
It’s presented very nicely in the Movie, but actual witch craft is much dirtier. People may call witch craft or Black magic as Mythology. But the fact is that these practices are still performed in many parts of Asia and Africa. I have not heard about the other parts of the world.
This witch craft involves exploiting the Ghosts, use of Dead Body and even human sacrifice (especially child).
Would you encourage some one to dig up the grave of your beloved or kidnap your child for sacrifice? Even exploiting the Ghost is wrong. Some poor souls out of their misdeed have been cursed to become ghost. Still they are still souls like you and me.
And what is the future of such Practices? One gets his body exploited, and becomes a ghost himself.
This is Stated in Bhagavad Gita 9.25.. “those who worship ghosts and spirits will take birth among such beings”.
It is shown in some movies of Ghosts enjoying, but it is far far from reality. They actually are suffering a lot.
I would personally never encourage witch craft having known its actual form. "

- That is sooo wrong. To all those saying witchcraft is evil and is dark or black magick, you really need to do your research away from the bible.

Real witchcraft is not bad magick, nor is it trickery or forcing miracles or forcing will upon people. Harry Potter is just a series of books, and nowhere in its pages does it state - 'children should all perform witchcraft' Real witchcraft teaches harm to none. To cast a spell on someone, you muct first gain permission, and I can hardly believe that someone is going to agree to having a curse put on them!!

It's a positive symbol that stands in contradiction to mainstream christian beliefs. All of the books are brilliantly written and Harry is easy to identify with. He learns about life as he moves from boyhood into manhood, and the stories teach important moral lessons in loyalty, courage, and friendship. All of these values are lessons that the youth of today can learn from reading Harry Potter. The Christian evangelicals are basically saber rattling around it.

I am a Christian, and I think that harry Potter is an okay book to read. many peple in my religion are dead set against it because of what it promotes- Witchcraft.

People need to realize that this book is just fiction, and wasn't meant to promote the younger crowd to get into Witchcraft.

I think it is okay for people of Christian faith to read this book, as long as they know it is only fantasy, and under the condition that they know where their roots are.

I feel that it is important to learn about Witchcraft, as well as all other religions on this world.

I am a Christian and I have read all the books and my children have seen all of the movies. I agree with you, I think someone has too much time on their hands and not enough common sense to know how to better put it to use. To me that is like saying,"Do not let your children read about Hansel & Gretel." Or even the Chronicles of Narnia. Some people will find fault with everything and overanalyze things into the ground.

The argument from the Christian community against the Harry Potter books is that it gives positive consideration to the practice of witchcraft. According to the Holy Bible, witchcraft is wrong and should not be practiced by anyone.
