Could I be held responsible for his actions in my car?

Yes. Insurance follows the car. If he was driving with your permission he is an insured and the liability coverage applies to him. You are not personally responsible for his actions, but your insurer will have to provide coverage for him, unless the policy carries an endorsement excluding him by name. In that case, there is no coverage for anything.

Your insurance covers a certain amount of property damage done by your car. Also bodily damage for other drivers and passengers outside of you. Read your policy carefully and if you don't understand what it all means then call your insurance company and ask to have it explained fully and in terms you understand. If your BF does not drive your car everyday they should not raise your rates for any accident. Secondly why lend your BF your car if he's not a good and careful driver?

Nope, unless you dont have liability, but he should have his own insurance, and he would be responsible for that, cause if it is on ur insurance, ur rates will go up.

Genie,
The accident will affect his driving record, but your insurance.

Sucks, but that's the way it is. Insurance follows the car, not the driver.

It should be the other way around, but it's not.

If your car is insured any one can drive it and it will be insured. You might be in trouble only if they have no insurance.

Yes you are. That is why it is best to have more than basic coverage. My coverage also insures me against people like you who do not carry enough coverage.

You are absolutely responsible unless you have him named on your policy as a second driver of that vehicle.
