It used to be that there were big campaigns to help curb litter. Does anyone recall the slogans on TV, Radio and even posters at school saying, "Give a hoot, don't pollute. Never be a dirty bird. In the city and in the wood, help keep America looking good!"
Nowadays, I see people everywhere just throwing trash on the ground, outside their vehicle in a parking log, and even on the street in front of their own house.
Litter in this country is getting to be a disgusting problem and really out of hand and I would like to know why.

Because so many people are selfish, lazy, and ignorant pigs. Ignorant because they can't comprehend that their homes and communities, etc. are all a reflection on them, and they take no pride in that at all. Unfortunately it is up to each community to allocate the funds to try and keep up with it all. So these pigs do more than liter, they increase our taxes!

I've seen the opposite trend in Texas, where the state started an extremely successful marketing/advertising plan; "Don't Mess With Texas."
http://www.dontmesswithtexas.org/
The secret to this simple slogan's success has been in connecting littering with a lack of patriotism (rightly so). The results are amazing:
Don't Mess with Texas has received assistance from some pretty famous folks over the years, including native Texans Stevie Ray Vaughan, Willie Nelson, Matthew McConaughey, LeAnn Rimes and George Foreman.
Litter on Texas roadways has been reduced by 52 PERCENT since 1995.

I honestly don't know why,but I can relate to your question there. At a local game shop I go to I see kids throw and leave all there trash around all over the place. Then the workers at the game shop or someone else has to clean up after there dirty lazy butts. It's the way things are,I don't expect much out of them or other people out there unfortinately. Current generation is werid,to me. I think it has to do somewhat of there upbrining or there envorinment.
Parents, other adults need to set a better example for this generation and other generations afterwards.

My guess is that people are becoming less moral, more lazy and everyone is in a hurry, so suddenly nobody can be bothered to take their trash to a bin. It wouldn't surprise me either if some people thought "the city should take care of cleaning litter off the streets" or "people are getting paid to clean litter off the streets, so it's ok to litter, they'll clean it up".
I always throw my garbage in a garbage bin and if there isn't one nearby I take my garbage with me until I reach one. It really isn't hard, more people should try it.

Because the police are biggest pigs of all they will condone this kind of behavior. I saw a kid throw some ice cream our of his parked car and I made him eat it off the ground. I guarantee he will never do that again without thinking whos around to see it!

i'm so sick of people being so lazy, jus dropping their crap everywhere. i tell my friend off for it all the time and she calls me an enviromentalist in a completely derogatory manner. well excuse me for caring about the planet. people are disgusting and lazy and it's a problem that's getting worse. at school there were five paper plates sitting on the ground underneath the bin! how absolutely ridiculous. i say we go dump rubbish in their loungeroom and see how they like it.
