For beer try some of the light beers since they have the least after taste like Coors light or Miller lite.
For wine try a sweet wine since they are to many easier to drink, the dry wines are often a developed taste. Some sweet reds are Concord or a Lumbrusco(goes well with pasta), a sweet white wine would be a Niagra. Hope this helps.

Well, it seams like most people start with liqour, then move on to beer later on. Honestly I reccomend working into flavors you like to start. Malt beverages are great starters due to a variety of flavors. They don't have that bitter taste of beer, which can be over powering at first. If you like any fruit flavors there are drinks of almost any taste. Personally I like the Smirnoff Twisted Raspberry, and it seams very popular, being that it is the most often sold out flavor. The Mike's Hard Lemonade are good too. If you want to try the liquor approach. Cranberry and Vodka is called a Cape Codder, and you can't taste the vodka too much. Some striaght liqours I like are Jagermeister, tastes like black licorice, and Goldschlager, it is cinnamon flavored. Both can be very potent drinks. For developing a taste for beer. Carona with lime as the previous poster stated is a great choice. I liked the Fosters and Killians to start with. Now I hate any watered down light beer and long for a Guiness!
Always remember, as a new drinker you tolerance is low. Drink with a good friend, preferably one who is a bit more experienced. At the begining, its easy to get wasted. You might be that one guy are the party who has had too much to drink just off a few drinks. Oh, and drink a ton of water, as much as possible before going to bed. Hangovers are basically your body responding to the dehydration that alcohol causes.

Well... taste of them all is going to be pretty much similar to the next.
What person from the start likes the taste of beer? Not many.. lol, after awhile, you become custom to the taste, and it doesn't give you that blah...ekkkk!!! Reaction.
Perhaps go for spritzers, it doesn't have to be all about beer and wine, there's lot's out there to try, with shooters, to rum and coke to the good ol screwdriver. There's all kinds drinks that's out there to try, experience some new one's and see what you like!

find THE cheapest worst tasting beer you can. drink it. then go drink a reg. ice brewed beer. the bad beer will help you appreciate all the other beers. hahaha hehehee. J/K start with single beers. one at a time til you find one you like. micro-breweries have really good ones. everyone is different. my father likes darker loggars. my mother enjoys pale ale & wines. my sister & i drink Bud & Miller. my husband's fve was Luckys. cheap and not the best tasting. but when you're a young MARINE , whatever is cheap and gets you drunk, you drink.hahaha. if you don't like the beers you try give them to you neighbor or cook with it. have fun.

Heineken Light is good. It doesn't taste like regular Heineken at all. As for wine get a light inexpensive Rose and chill it just slightly. And any kind of Sour drink like a Whiskey Sour, Amaretto Sour or a Tom Collins is a nice way to develop a taste for liquor.

Non-drinking is an interesting phenomenon - why spoil it?
Many beginners like certain cocktails and liqueurs better than beer and wine. My family are non-drinkers as a whole but when there is a special occasion everybody loves to have some of my grandma's amarello liqueur (though she makes it quite hard, it's very tasty). But liqueurs are ok if you like sweet drinks - some people just don't.

NONE, if you don't like the taste of alcohol; then for yourself DON'T drink! Trust me it's not worth the side effects alcohol causes, just to impress people, or be more social! No one likes the taste of alcohol, because it tastes like crap. Everyone just drinks it because the media on television tells them it's the "Social" Cool thing to do. Why..?
Cause Alcohol allows them to have more control over people. Alcohol used to be used as war tactics many years ago, the millitary used (and it's still a common tactic; just in different drug forms now) it when they invaded countries, to make people become dependent on them, they then would do anything to recieve this drug again. Allowing them to take over the land. They used this on our own Indeginous society when the first fleet invaded.
Alcohol causes chemicals in your brain to be produced, that literally burn out certain memories and parts of your brain after a long period of consumption. It causes depression and more "Stress" chemicals to be produced, and it causes proteins to be torn down, causing people to develop mental dissorders and memory problems! It causes you to feel like Crap too! Because it is causing so many problems, and stuffing your body up so much.
Business is "de volving" us as a species; as they are taking mamals, and creating the same chemically influenced behaviours in us, as in insects. Ants and insects are the only other species that work all day to come home and recieve a chemical. Do you know how the Queen ant gets the "worker" ants to work for her as servants? The Queen ant releases a highly addictive and tasty chemical, that then causes the ants to work all day just to come home and recieve this chemical.
Sound Familliar?
Although I have to admit, when being born into a pre manipulated society, while still wanting to get along with people; It is very hard not to be pressured into drinking at some point. I myself have one or two beers when I socialise, because it is considerd the Norm to do. You should never with other things though, allow yourself to comprimise your beliefs, or values and do something that you don't want to do!
If you would like to go out without having to drink, there are many places now that are around that don't have alcohol. Also you could look into finding some different minded freinds (like arty, creative minded or med people etc) who will simply not care if you don't drink. You sound like a smart person, don't comprimise your values to much man, and look into sport, that's always something you can do without drinking. Hope that helps at all. :]

The best place to start for a non-drinker is Alcoholics Anonymous. Then you see if you still want to drink

If you don't like to drink, then don't drink. It's plain and simple.
However, if you want to try good beers, visit http://www.pubcrawler.com. It lists all the good beers that are local in your area.
