I haven't heard of an engagement watch...I think the main concern with the watch is it could go out of style and you would get sick of it years later. I think a necklace though with a special pendant could be a really nice substitute for a ring. I guess some people aren't big jewelry wearers and don't care for rings..some people are just happy to have a wedding band and that's all.

I've never heard of a man giving a woman a watch when he proposed.
If he doesn't get her the traditional diamond ring, then maybe try either different stones, or a pendant. I don't think that something like a watch that could easily get broken is a good idea for a proposal.
Maybe if it's an engagement gift after he has proposed, or a wedding gift to her at the wedding, I could see a watch as a gift. But it's not something I would want to get from my husband. If he was buying me a watch, I would rather it be a brithday or Christmas gift, it's not very romantic to me.

Yuck!
I have heard of no such thing whatsoever!
I don't care if it even were a real trend, it wouldn't be very encouraging if a guy got girls an "engagement watch". That would be an incredibly short date!
Can you imagine a guy getting on his knees, proposing, and the girlfriend getting excited about the big box in his hand, then he opens it and she sees this stupid watch! He would be better off empty-handed if he can't show a ring for some reason..

Well... call me old fashioned.... but when I propose to a lady it will be with a diamond on a ring.
I have never heard of such a ridiculous notion of an engagement watch.

Never heard of engagement watches. Rings are traditional, but you can give whatever you want if those aren't your thing.

It's common for a woman to give her man, but not for him to give her. Alot of guys want to wear some sort of symbol of the engagement, but not a ring, as they want to save that finger for the actual wedding ring.

I have been married twice and never had a ring. Some men do not like to wear rings, so their g/f's will buy them a watch, it is fairly common.

I dont think so... if you want to be unconventional, try buying a ring with a stone other than diamonds..... sapphires, emeralds.. or colored diamonds are some new ideas for engagement rings...
