I feel in terms of treating women equal to men following is the order
1. In Christian - In christian women have more freeness to work, go to church, have social status in society. No where women are less than men
2. In Hindusm - Women are allowed to take part in religious & social activities. They are free to work & mixup freely in society. Also have social status.
3. In Buddism - women have equal status as hindusm but less than christian
4. In Islam - Though Islam says women should be treated equally to man but this does not happened. Among all religion condition of women is very weak as compare to men

A lot of the Pagan religions place women on a near, equal, or better footing than men. Most of them have female clergy of one stripe or another; in some cases, the female clergy hold a greater say in how things are run.

Tends to be a side-effect of following a religion that has a goddess/goddesses - you are generally a bit more respectful towards women if there's a feminine divine.

I don't trust a religion to treat anyone equally and respectfully. Too much is open to interpretation.

Look up the ancient Scythians, though. Rough bunch, probably not really all that long on human rights of any kind, but they apparently had female religious leaders and warriors. I expect women are going to be treated better in a culture where they carry swords.

Islam.

The foundation of an Islamic society is justice and equity. Allah has created men and women as equal, but with different capabilities and different responsibilities. Men and women are different, physiologically and psychologically. Their roles and responsibilities are different. Men and women are equal in Islam, but not identical.

On the misconceptions, there is a great deal more to write, most of it showing how current practices in many Muslim lands go against what the Qur'an and Sunnah have ordained, lands in which women are treated as property (unIslamic), are not educated (unIslamic), are forbidden their economic rights (unIslamic), and more. On this point in particular, we encourage everyone to consult the Qur'an and Sunnah before incriminating Islam. Always remember that Islam is a complete way of life from the Creator, and that Muslims are people who claim to follow that way of life. A Muslim may claim to follow Islam, but be wrong.

Most religions have protections and rights regarding the treatment and respect for women. In writing, Islam looks to be very appealing to a women. Although both the Bible and Quran teach the honoring and protection of women, the Quran covers property rights for women and seems to stress a little more reverence for the role of mother, for example "heaven lays at your mother's feet". Although women may be revered, she is still not a man's equal. For her motherhood role, she is supposedly above a man, but she is to ultimately cleave to her husband in all things. This is a common theme in most of the major religions. What is interesting is the interpretations and applications of these holy books throughout various societies. Although Islam looks good on paper for women, the unfortunate fact is that women in Islamic countries have some of the most gender biased laws in the world. Many women in Islamic countries are struggling for women's rights. Rights that women in most Western countries take for granted (and rightly so). Most Christian or pre-dominantly Christian countries have established equal rights for women.
So, reading the holy books, the Quran looks better for women than the Bible, but in practice it seems the Bible is better for women than the Quran.
Maybe we are led to believe it's religious when it's really cultural. Both the Bible and the Quran are grossly misinterpreted and used for purposes other than there intent.

New Zealand has had equality probably longer than any other nation. They were the first in the world to give women the vote, we have a woman Prime Minister, a woman speaker in the House of Parliament and a woman has just retired as Governor General. We have a woman CEO in charge of one of our largest companies and 55% of the New Zealand population class themselves as Christians. Go figure for yourself. If it's Islam then why are women in Saudi Arabia not allowed to drive or vote???

Hinduism.

In religious matters, Hindus have elevated women to the level of divinity.

Hinduism is a culture whose only words for strength and power are feminine -- "shakti'' means "power'' and ``strength.'' All male power comes from the feminine. The Trimurti (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva) are all powerless without their female counterparts.

"India of the Vedas entertained a respect for women amounting to worship; a fact which we seem little to suspect in Europe when we accuse the extreme East of having denied the dignity of woman, and of having only made her an instrument of pleasure and of passive obedience." He also said: "What! here is a civilization, which you cannot deny to be older than your own, which places the woman on a level with the man and gives her an equal place in the family and in society."

-Louis Jaccoliot

"Women enjoyed far greater freedom in the Vedic period than in later India. She had more to say in the choice of her mate than the forms of marriage might suggest. She appeared freely at feasts and dances, and joined with men in religious sacrifice. She could study, and like Gargi, engage in philosophical disputation. If she was left a widow there were no restrictions upon her remarriage."

It doesn't depend on religion, but upon humanity. Women and men are equal in the eyes of God.

None. It's pretty hard to get high up in the hierarchy in any religion. So far, United Church and Anglican are the only 2 that allow women as priests, or whatever they are called in those sects.
