Surges can occur at any time. It is always wish to have your surge protector connected to your sensitive equipment at all times. Power surges do not only occur during storms. They are caused by many different events on a power system including storms. So to be safe, keep it connected especially on equipment like computers etc.

You should have your computer, television and other electronics plugged in to a surge protector at all times. It protects them from all electrical surges not just storms. Many things can cause a power storm and the extra electricity can fry your electronics.
