I have been trying off and on the last couple years to lose weight. I can generally do alright at exercise, but I can't seem to stop eating out and eating too much of the "wrong" foods. No day in my mind can be good unless I eat out or eat comfort foods. What can I do to get food untied from my emotional state?

Leave the comfort food on the shelves in the supermarket, buy extra fruit and veg, that way you gorge on healthy stuff, It does work trust me, I do it often.

Hi Angelina. I'm actually having the same problem. I just finished grad-school, and I'm currently severely under-employed. Since I work so much, I don't have time or money to go out and have fun. I have no benefits or vacation, and one of my co-workers has started treating me like I'm his personal assistant. I've gained 20 pounds since I started grad-school, and I've been eating out on almost a daily basis. I agree with one of the other people who posted a response. If you're hungry, then you should eat. I can understand that you feel hopeless considering that you're unemployed, so you turn to food for comfort. I wish that there was some way I could give you my e-mail address without posting it for everyone to see. Then we could be accountability partners. I would suggest finding someone that you can e-mail or call on a daily basis so that you can share your struggles. I think it would help if you had someone who could hold you accountable. It would also be good if you could set some goals for yourself -- not just weight related, but other things that you want to achieve. Then you will have something to work towards every day. Good luck.

well first off when you go to the grocery store dont buy foods that is fating and going to tempt you. buy lots of fruits. and drink lots of water when you fill hungry that will feel you up really quicky. and dont go to fast foods places those are the worst and if you do order a salad. or chicken. just take it one day at a time and allow yourself something good when you do good all day long. just dont eat at nightime and if u do eat a fruit. eat smaller portions and dont try to starve yourself. losing weight is the hardest good luck and god bless!

Maybe you do need to be part of a group, like WeightWatchers or whatever, because you are 80% there but just need an incentive to overcome the fatal 'moments of weakness', which blow the rest of your efforts.

Just one little, little donut WILL make a difference.

Hang in there!

Substitute. Don't create a vacuum by simply removing something, substitute in something else. Something emotionally nourishing, like a support group or other activity with people. Simple answer, I know, and not easy, but effective.

sometimes what i do is eat something you really have to chew, like beef jerky, which, while still unhealthy, takes longer to eat (especially the really dry ones), which gives me time to think and i don't really eat as much because it takes longer. another thing i can think of is eating carrots, cause i really like the sweet, baby carrots and they're healthy too!
