Contrary to popular belief, newer translations are not merely updated versions of the previously released editions. Most of them are translated directly from the original manuscripts and scrutinized by language scholors of various faiths. Be careful though, as some "christian" denominations have released their own versions of God's Word to support their own practices. It is my understanding that the King James Version and New King James Version are the closest translations to the original Greek and Hebrew manuscripts. The New International Version is also excellent.

I figure if you want the actual words of God, don't look for an English version. Learn Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic. English doesn't translate exactly.

as long as the message is still the same : God sent His son, Jesus to die for our sins so when we accept this gift of grace we have Eternal life.

Absolutely. The meaning is still the same, even if the words are slightly different.

For example, I can say, "You da bomb", or "You cool", or "You're great" and they all mean the same thing.
