My people have inhabited this land for approximately 30,000 years. Mexicans came from the Spanish. There was a mix of those Spanish with the native Americans in the southwestern part of the (now) USA. The Native Americans, however, WERE here first, THEN they mixed with those people and later with white Europeans and some mixed with the black. Our Lumbee Indians are of African descent. You can see a strong Asian influence in our native Americans in Alaska~Eskimo..Inuit, Aleutian, Athabaskan. It is seen in many others, although not as strong, in some of the other indigenous tribes.
Mexicans were not Native American unless they were of Native American-Spanish descent. (being 'Mexican' does not mean a person is Native American, it means he is from Mexico~of Spanish descent) If a Mexican claims to be of Native American descent then he is also of Asian descent (from the migration of man across the Bering Straits) and of course Spanish.
Edit: Our people do much more than run Casino's. We have doctors, lawyers, IT Professionals, nurses, you name it. We even once had a Native American who was Vice president of the USA. All Native Americans do not live on the reservations. We are just like any other AMERICAN, proud of our heritage.

I don't know where you come from with this Q. But technically speaking, the Americas include South, Central, and North. Mexicans were in southern California, Texas, and the southwest mainly. And when faced with the US Calvary they left! American Indians - I'm guessing this what you label as Native - did not. They stayed the course and fought the good fight. They lost the fight over time, unfortunately, and became relegated to reservations, however, they are true Americans!
I think Mexicans are Mexicans just as I think Canadians are Canadian. We all live in America - to one degree or another, but we're not all Native Americans.
I'm part Zuni Indian.

Mexican refers to somebody from Mexico. The same way the French are from france. Mexican refers to a nationality, Native American refers to a race. Therefore you can have Native American Mexicans.

Lame. Mexican is a nationality, just like American, not a race. My family comes from Mexico. I got cousins with fair skin, some with blue eyes, some that are tall, some that are blonde, some that are short, and some that are brown etc. I think that proves the point we are a mestizo family.....but we all speak spanish and not a native american language, so even the brownness one among us is more euro in the inside than aztec. Remember aztecs weren't catholics either.

Yes there are a few indigenous Americans in Mexico. Mostly they are in remote villages and are direct descendants of the Aztec. Mexicans have done nearly all they possibly could to annihilate these peoples. Most Mexicans today are of Spanish and Native blood (Mestizos).
Mexicans as we know them today were NEVER indigineous!
The Azteca peoples were!
I would be last to admit that the North American indigenous people were treated much better at the hands of their European conquerors. A fact that leaves me ashamed, and also thankful that my ancestors didn't arrive here until the late 1860's.

The population of Mexico is mostly a blend of native people and their Spanish conquerors. Some Mexicans are of mostly European descent and some mostly of Native American descent, but you can't honestly describe Mexicans in general as being Native Americans.
"As an ethnic group, mestizos constitute officially 65-75% of Mexico's population."
"According to official statistics, Native Amerindian peoples make up 12% (a little more than 12 million, as of 2000) of the population..."
"About 15% of the population, primarily located in Mexico City, Jalisco, Sonora, Sinaloa, Coahuila, Tamaulipas, Nuevo León, Zacatecas and Chihuahua and other large metropolitan areas, is of European descent."

A native American is anyone born in the United States just like anyone born in Germany is a native German or anyone born in Canada is a native Canadian. So, if a kid born today in the USA and is a few hours old is a native American just like the person whose ancestors have been here a thousand years.
Native American doesn't just mean the so-called indian.

The key word you said is WERE. (Quote un Quote). When they mixed with the spanish they were forced to assimalate to thier culture and became a new race MEXICANS. That race stold California Texas Arizona and New Mexico fron the Natives. They enslaved the Natives and killed and tortured them too.
Mexico stold the land from the Natives that America PURCHASED from Mexico.
