why is it that many people do not think Catholics and Protestants are alike? ive even saw someone post that Catholics are not Christians ..lol. But seriously, there is a difference in the way we take communion and Catholics have a little more emphasis on Mary then protestants though Protestants honor Mary as well. Also the Catholic Church is a little more structured, but Many Protestants feel that some structure isnt a bad thing..

So why do people think that they are so different?

mr 3. this obviously wasnt a question for you.. so why bother? are you that insecure that you need to lash out at others beliefs?

And Fug.

Funny, but i disagree. it all depends on the person not the church we go to in the amount of your belief and repentance. I have friends that are Protestant and take their beliefs and acknolgement of sin very seriously and ive met and have friends that are Catholic that hardly go to church except for holidays.

Ah Sarge..poor sarge..

youve completely proven my point and made very little sense about it.

ive been to catholic services but im a practicing methodist. maybe you and mr king should actually think a little harder.. What makes one christian is the Belief in Jesus Christ as our lord and Savior. there are Several verses in the New testament that make this so. Benifiting from both kinds of services, both are devoted to worshiping christ. But since you are not a Christian i can see your confusion in the matter. and your thoughts on it are not valid. I dont call a plumber to fix my car. So why would i ask an atheist on a matter of Christianity?

Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.

Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):

By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

There are some minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.

A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.

With love in Christ.

I'm Pentecostal, and I think Protestants and Catholics are both Christian. We both worship the same God and have faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. I think Catholics are great people of God.

I knew a girl who had been raised Catholic and converted to Protestant -- she tried to convince me that the Catholic Church is a cult. Some Protestants think that unfortunately. But, no, that's silly.

Catholics over the Protestants in 5 games of a best of 7 series

Deeper bench, with experienced players that have been to the playoffs before, with a winning tradition..that counts a lot in this game, and with deeper pockets, they can field the best team that money can buy. Tough, hard fought series..with mutual respect for one another just to make it to the playoffs...

however,,,the Hebrew nationals and the Islamic Shiites will test the divisional victors for the world series...that promises to be another battle...but I'm going with the Catholics over the Jews in 6 games...

They're not so different as some people say, the most conspicuous difference is, that the Catholics admire holy peoples, like St.John.It's also a fact, that the Catholics praise the holy Virgin.Nowadays the differences are very small.

We are not so different. It was nice when my Baptist cousin came to mass with me and commented on how surpised she was that the mass was so Christ-centered. She thought it would be Mary centered.

I think the people who think Catholics aren't Christians just don't understand what the Catholic Church actually teaches.

People think they are different because THEY ARE DIFFERENT from one another, just as the Lord intended it to be...just like all the body is not an eye, nor an ear nor legs etc...all the Body of Christ SHOULD be working together in harmony....but sin is way too prevelent in our world especially at this time in history.

There are some major doctrinal issues, but when Jesus returns He will be judging according to man's heart, for God looks not on the outer appearance as does man, but on the heart. He will pick his people out from every area of life, regardless of religion.

If you don't see the difference, look up Martin Luther. Catholics are basically not Christian because the Biblical teachings of Jesus are not compatible with Christian doctrine. Anyway, I don't believe in either religion because the Bible is a flawed, man-made book that's full of nonsense and baloney.

Those who don't know the difference don't realize that Catholics and Protestants have more things in common than differences.

A lot of people take the simple approach to keeping them separate in their heads. Protestants are Catholic-Lite :) All the commitment, half the guilt ;)
