No... A person can appear sober and then go to a bar, there is no way for a bartender to know how much someone has had to drink prior to arriving at the bar. Breathalyzers in bars will never come into effect because the government makes too much money from the booze biz. The person drinking has the responsibility to not drink and drive..even when you are gibbled, you know driving is a bad idea.

Should a Dr be held responsible for a person that overdoses on medication that they have been saving up to take all at once.. At some point, we have to be responsible for our own actions, and stop blaming other people.

I don't believe so no, when you go to a food joint, should you be responsibly for clogging someone's arteries?
What that person does, is their choice, it's not the best one by far, but if the bartender knows the difference, or knows the, even knows of them, and should attempt another solution, but as for the actions leaving the bar.. the bartender isn't the babysitter. Either way it's not right no, but that person knows their limit, when it's past their limit, and it was their choice to continue drinking, I mean, a bartender has no history of what they did that night, they could of been drinking before then, or into something else, and after 1 drink it could just top the iceburg then.
So no.. I don't believe they should be held accountable, they never forced that person to drink, it was on their own free will.

Although there have been instances of bars/bartenders being sued, I strongly feel that this is incorrect. When you realize how you harass the poor guys into getting you several ‘last orders/ones for the road’ before you decide to call it a day, you would sympathize with them too.

Its almost like blaming the wiring, lighter/matchbox manufacturing company for fire hazards.

Responsible partying is for the individual. We should always have a designated driver who is not drinking that evening and never drink and drive.

I know that in the town that I live in they are responsible. It is a law here, the bartender must take all measures to get the keys from the customer. Even if it means calling the police to get the keys from the drunk person. No one will be arrested a cab is called and no one gets hurt or God forbid dies.

Should I be held responsible because some idiot decided to get in his car and drive? After I cut him off and offered him a cab? You are joking right? Should we hold you responsible for letting your buddy leave and get into an accident when he had been drinking? How about laying that responsibility on the person who deserves it, and the only person who deserves it, the drinker themselves.

Stand up, go to a mirror, look at yourself, and repeat over and over,"I am responsible for my own actions."

If someone in my bar is drunk, I will stop serving them, offer them a cab and if they refuse, I will call security. Security cannot do anything to them accept ask them to leave and offer them a cab again. If they decide to walk out of my doors, I do not know what they are planning to do. They could be walking home. They could sleep in their car. I am so sick and tired of people trying to push blame on anyone but themselves. Man up and take responsibilty for your actions.

NO..... Everyone should be held accountable for their own actions. Its not the Bartender who forced the person to drink nor to drive. Thats like holding gun manufactures responsible for someone getting killed with a handgun. Or Mc Donalds for someone being fat. Someone walks across your property and they trip and hurt themselves, you get sued because that person was a spaz. Freakin lawyers got everything turned around. Why not make the person who decided to drink responsible and not give them a reason to drink again.

If someone is obviously smashed and you serve them you could very well be held responsible however, who's to say that when they leave your establishment that they dont have a 12pak or a 5th of something in their vehicle that they are slugging down before an accident occurs? Just think about someone you care about on the other side of that highway and serve him or her a glass of soda with some tonic water in it -chances are they wont know and then you will have covered your own butt.

Yes. If the person is clearly inebriated, then the tender is knowingly providing an already addled person with further addlement. The drunk individual is also accountable for his actions, but alcohol impairs a human being's ability to make informed decisions... hence a tender's responsibility to cut someone off when they've had too much.

hell no... its only stupid to do that.. the job of the bar man is to serve drinks and not stop people from entering thier cars...

why not implement a "bar police" to stop drunk people from getting into their cars..
but again.. that will be another dumb idea...

better still.. ration alcohol.. no one is allowed more than 5 shots a nite.. again.. that'll be dumb cos some people can get wasted on 2 shots.. let alone 5..

so lets just leave things the way they are ;p
peace..

be wise..

big fat NO...it certanly isnt my fault they're stupid ...I did'nt ask them to come in or order alcohol.you have to be 21 to drink in a bar so we are all adults and should be held responsible for our own actions and choices,I have been a bartender for 11 years now, just got off work in fact...
