Buy a notebook computer if you think that you need to be able to take it with you all the time or you wish to be able to use anywhere you go. The screen is small and fixed. The price is higher than a desktop. Also they usually don't have as large storage on the hard drive as a desktop computer. A desktop is cheaper and the best choice if you only need a computer at home. You have more options for using and installing hardware. You can buy a large monitor and you have a lot more memory and hard-drive space.

The choice depends on how you intend to use it. If you need something portable, then laptop is an obvious choice. If portability is not a concern, then I would recommend a desktop computer since you will get much better configuration (CPU speed, RAM etc) as compared to laptop, for a given amount. Additionally, I would also recommend to hold on a few more months from buying any of these, if possible. There are two reasons:
1. Microsoft will launch their latest operating system Vista in a few months. This will change the entire software market since all the software released after this operating system will demand higher configuration and VISTA compatibility. There is a real chance that you may find you machine incompatible for most of the application, within a few months.
2. Intel Core Duo processors have just arrived, if you wait for some time then prices will come down and you can get a better configuration for same price, as compared to this time.

It depends on various factors - Your requirement, your pocket, etc.
Desktop PC. : I have the one because other than Yahoo! answers and seeing mail etc., I have little work. It is very convenient have big key board. Less costly You can go for this if you are buying with your own money.
Laptop: I feel you are an Indian. Indians like to roam with a laptop hanging on their shoulders to show others. It is becoming a status symbol like a cell phone (now a days here even maid servants have cell phone) in India. Laptop is handy, latest and costlier than PC. If your job requires you can go for it. Generally the employers provide it, as my daughter has one and occasionally I use it also.
You are the best Judge to decide

Your computer - your call.
If you don't need to move it around all the time buy a desktop. That way you can repair it, add bits to it and upgrade it yourself. If you want to experiment with say Linux you can buy another hard drive put it in and play. If it doesn't work out then put your old hard drive back in. Hard to do all that with a laptop.
Plus laptop keyboards suck.

if you are type of person who needs to manipulate files anytime of the day and has the money to buy laptops. It's better to have a laptop. Or else have a desktop computer.
but for me, its laptop because its very handy and portable.

in the previous you purchase any workstation, do your study. first and maximum surprising, study laptops on web content like Yahoo Tech or PCMagazine, or maybe CNet. then you certainly ought to settle on in case you're going with Mac or living house windows. Then check out the main manufacturers like Apple, Dell, Gateway, HP, Toshiba, and Lenovo. look to be certain if those companies grant refurbished notebooks because of the fact that those are many times much less extreme priced than a clean one. A refurbished computer is one that has been returned to the producer by making use of the consumer for regardless of reason and the workstation has been mounted. additionally, a refurbished workstation may well be one that became into as quickly as used for a shop demonstrate yet by no skill bought. confer with human beings you be attentive to who've bought laptops in the previous for their advice besides. by no skill purchase a workstation basically because of the fact apparently extreme-high quality. you opt to have the skill to apply it for all your desires. As for Vista, many human beings say it sucks. i bought a workstation from HP with Vista living house top classification and so some distance, I even have had no issues. For me, i'm attempting to discover an at-living house activity and am looking out that with many companies, their structures are actually not yet properly suited with Vista. yet it is nice, because of the fact it became into an identical whilst XP first got here out. no longer anybody jumped on the bandwagon. lots of the classes that have compatibility with XP are additionally properly suited with Vista. Vista does require a minimum of a million gig to run, so once you're watching a workstation with below a gig of RAM, then carry on with XP. basically make specific that the workstation is Vista able and which you additionally can improve the RAM. sturdy luck on your seek.
