There is no site specific way of losing fat... the old myth about working your abs to burn belly fat isn't true. To get rid of love handles, you need to lose overall fat. That happens with exercise and watching your diet. More on that below.
The most effective way to lose fat is aerobic exercise in the "moderate" fat-burning range, ideally first thing in the morning before you eat. When you wake your body is ready to burn fat and your levels of growth hormone are highest at that time. Later in the day it can take up to 30 minutes just to put your body into a fat-burning mode.
Another overlooked way to burn fat is by lifting weights. Skeletal muscle has very high caloric needs... almost twice that of adipose (fat) tissue. Put on a little muscle and you will burn calories all day even at rest. Be aware that skeletal muscle weighs more, so with this approach you may see your weight increasing while your body fat is melting away. Not realizing this often stresses folks who think they should be losing weight as a measure of fitness. Forget the scale, look in the mirror and you will be happy.
For diet, keep a diary for a couple of weeks counting calories, grams of protein, and grams of fat intake. It is easy with online sources of nutritional information (type the name of the food and calories into the Google search engine) and packaging labels. That will let you quickly figure out where the fat is coming from in your diet.
Fat gives you 9 calories per gram. So take the number of grams of fat, multiply by 9, then calculate what percentage the fat calories are of your total daily calories. Restricting the calories from fat to about 20% of your total intake is ideal for a maintenance diet... that isn't overly restrictive. Of note, you need some fat in your diet. For instance, the body uses fat to produce hormones. Once you have a picture of how to modify your diet, you can drop the diary and just go back to it occasionally if you are wanting to tweek things further.
There is a subset of questions that goes further and asks about "How to get a six-pack?" The answer is the same. Six-packs are 20% abdominal exercise and 80% diet. There is one caveat... abdominal muscles will form in the position that you exercise them, so be certain to pull them tightly toward your spine while doing crunches, etc. Also, during most lifting, the "core is active" which means that you should be stabilizing with contracted abs then too. Fail to do this and the abs will form, but bulging outward and the result is not attractive.
If you are trying to build muscle as a way to lose fat, then you may need to increase total calories and specifically your protein intake. I target about 0.8 g of protein per pound of body weight each day when actively building. That is far more protein than most people need in their diets.
Hope this is helpful to someone.

No need to use a treadmill, just go outside. Walk with a friend and do different drills, walk up hills and do some light jogging if you are not a runner. Since you have a stationary bike use that every other day and don't just sit there and ride go fast and slow and keep a moderate past. Change your eating habits as well at look at your own life style. Belly fat can be a sign of stress as well as unhealthy choices in food. Measure yourself instead of weigh yourself, this is the best way to see results. You also need to add some weight lifting and crunches. Belly fat is very hard to get rid of, so don't let it get to you if you don't see results quickly, see your doctor first before you start any activities and see if he/she can recommend a nutrionalist also.

Cardio like an stationary bike or treadmill is very effective for burning bodyfat, but a combination of weight training and cardio is best if you want to be toned as well as slimmer.
There is little difference between a treadmill and a stationary bike in terms of how effective they are at fat burning. But a stationary bike is low impact on your knees whereas a treadmill is higher impact so a stationary bike is probably better in the long term to prevent and knee problems.
With either equipment the basic ideas are the same. In order to maximise fat burning you should exercise at 60-80% of your MHR for 45-60 minutes, three times a week. Measure your pulse on your wrist during your exercise session and see if it falls within this range.
MHR stands for maximum heart rate and is worked out as 220 minus your age, so for a 30 year old:
MHR = 220-30= 190
so your pulse should be between roughly 110 and 150 beats per minute.

Hi there, you should join a gym and get a professional to show you what is best. Cardio is best for losing body fat, but you'll need to tone the muscles as well.
This is hard work and if you are not motivated enough to use the bike or treadmill daily, you are wasting your money.
I strongly recommend joining a gym, were you can go to body toning or aerobics classes or just use the machines at your own pace.
Good luck!

Something I've never understood is, why buy hi-tec gym equipment like treadmills instead of going for a walk, run, marathon, supermarathon, or swim, costing nothing. When I was a kid I used to walk or bike everywhere because we didn't have a car. Now gas is getting expensive, maybe you and me should do the same again. Hang in there.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
Get started today!

Treadmill is great and watch your diet. I lost 50 lbs in 6 months by treadmill every day for 45 minutes (I had to work my way up to it). When I use my treadmill I put on some really upbeat music and I sort of dance on the machine.....I also do a lot of arm movements and it strengthened my arms, shoulders, and back.

No, because the amount of electricity prison inmates could generate would not be enough to provide for lower-income families and residences. That and it's completely absurd.
