She is not doing anything that she believes is wrong.
She was taught this by her mother, when the mom kept the nest clean. When mom became too overwhelmed to keep clean after all the litter, the pups were good little helpers and did it themselves....They didn't have gloves and bags, so just did it the way they could. She is just being fastidious. Please DON'T rub her nose in it or scold or punish her... That will only confuse her. She will not get the point, and you will have a traumatized dog.

Dog's ancestors have done this for eons, to keep their area clean and to not let predators know where they live. It is as natural for them as hand washing is for people.

The only solution is to consistently beat her to it. Hopefully she will learn that you can be trusted to clean it up so she doesn't have to.... Meanwhile, try feeding pineapple pieces in her food.. This may help some, as it makes the poo very distasteful, and won't harm the dog..(unsweetened or fresh pineapple).
Note: the ones that do this are usually the easiest to house train, as they are good house keepers

Oh I know how you feel! My puppymill rescue pug did this for the first 18 months I had her and EVERY medication and diet change we tried didnt work. I was told to put some pineapple juice or crushed pineapple on her food. I use about 2 tablespoons for a cup or food or half a can of moist. It does something to their poo when it digests that makes them NOT want to eat it. Finally, I found something easy that discourages my pug from eating her own feces. It didnt take long either, by the next day she was NOT eating her own poop. I know it's worked for several other rescue friends who have tried it so may be worth a shot for your dog. Good luck and no doggy kisses for awhile! :P

Dogs smell every ingredient in food, not just the final product. I agree with what cricket said about changing her food. She may not be digesting everything she needs, and finds that the poo smells like the food she just ate. If that doesn't work, you need to try training her to not perform the behavior. Whether you use punishment for eating the poo or rewards for not eating it. My dad used to put his lab in 'time out' for chewing on furniture. Get the dog a kennel that you can send her to for punishment.
If all else fails...call the dog whisperer.

This is such a common problem with humans, for the dogs it is no problem at all.

The reason, what the dog eats passes through, in the end result to them it smells like MEAT. The meat you feed. So they eat it.

If you can suppress your disgust and take it as normal then you will feel much better.

I just ignore it, doesn't bother me, it is just something they do.
Dogs will be dogs, that is what makes us different, we are humans. Par and parcel of owning a dog. Just a little jolt to remind you they are not human.

Make sure your dog is wormed regularly (worms are passed in faeces) and vaccinated (parvo is carried in faeces).

Have you considered changing her food? I have 2 dogs. One of them started eating her poop one day after I fed them some canned food. I switched her back to the dry food, Pedigree, and she stopped. I also avoid giving her any table scraps at all. If I feed her the fat from a roast or steak, she'll go back to eating her poop. So maybe you're just feeding her too well! hehe Good luck!

It's very easy to break this habit: If your dog does it another one, throw him immediately a bunch of keys between the legs or on his back and say loud "NO"! Repeat it as often,as necessary!
You'll see, it works!

Try putting some Lawry's meat seasoning on her food.just a little. It'll make her poo taste really nasty to her.
