My brother is in Iraq for the 4th time and he claims the situation is hopeless and he is the biggest patriot you can find. Soldiers fight enemies and they aren't policemen!

The war was necessary and shouldn't require an explanation. The peace is difficult because the Sunnis and Shiites are killing each other and American GIs as well. Arabs have been killing each other for years. Sunnis and Shittes hate each other and there will never be peace in Iraq until a sadistic dictator is installed. I am certain that the Jihadists are also behind all of this and we probably will have to pull out soon; however, this means that Iran (which is primarily Shiite) will move in and then comes the third world war. This isn't an easy one to figure out because of the various complexities involved. Should America pull out and move all forces back to the USA including the ones in Saudi Arabia? Should we desert Israel, the only true democracy in the middle east? Should we pull out of Kosivo, S. Korea, Japan, Germany, etc.? Why should America be the world's policeman?
It is costing American lives and money. Is there another and better way to fight terrorism? The Jihadists have pledged to wipe us out. Should we merely sit there and let them have their way?
Where does it start and where does it stop?

I do. But not because it is a violent a deadly conflict like all wars. I was against going for the same reason I think it is doomed to failure. Over 100 years ago the British also tried to make peace there and after killing many thousands of innocents, they claimed a tentative peace but according to their then foreign secretary it WASN'T worth it. Fundamentally, a country fights a war to gain something of benfit to that country. Whether you are fighting for Gold, people resouces, Oil, or "freedom". you have to be able to quantify what you will gain. What will we gain in all of this? I mean, if we really WERE stealing oil like the rest of the world thinks we are, at LEAST THAT would give us a concrete reason for being there. The fact that we have no "end game", and no realy way to quantify success, is why I am against the war.

I would offer that anyone who has actually been in a shooting war hates it. It is disruptive, demoralizing, and debilitating. Your nerves are on end, your adrenalin is all but out of control and coming down is a place you don't feel good at, at all! I hate war but .. better there than in my home town. And if we don't hold fast, or quit and go home, they will follow us here! It's a new and different kind of war, unlike any we as a nation have faced.

General George Patton said during WW2; you don't win wars by dieing for what you believe in, you win by making the other guy die for what you believe in. I believe in what Gen Patton said. It was appropriate then and it's appropriate today.

I dislike the war in Iraq, I don't agree with modern man needing to have wars. I feel that as long as we continue to create wars and we retain our warlike attitude we as a world will not experience the powers that exist off this planet Earth, and we will continue to be observed by the beings from other worlds, who study our habits , good & bad.

The only ones who actually LIKE war are those who start them.
As long as my country has soldiers fighting somewhere, ANYwhere, all of those soldiers have all the support I can muster. People who do nothing but complain about the war will be responsible for another generation of burnouts like Vietnam Vets can often be because of the general lack of support for the PEOPLE who wear those uniforms every day!

Is it "hopeless'? In many ways yes, but much of that is due to the nature of jihad and our lack of understanding of exactly what that means. IMHO if we "pick up our toys and go home" we will find that jihad will follow us home whether it is Iraq, Iran, or any of the other countries where we are currently fighting where jihad has been declared. Jihad is a fight to the death for EVERYONE who disagrees with "you" (you being the one declaring jihad)...it is what has fueled wars in the middle-east for centuries and will continue to do so until the end of the age.

i don't hate it.I just think it is a waste of time.I was born here in California and will always have the back of my country, but fighting for oil, come on.We are killing people so we can get more energy off of it.Then in turn the oil will cause more pollution and will probably end up killing people. The aforementioned(by Bush) great "War on Terror" is obviously a big lie.No way we can kill all the terrorist cells. While we are doing that, basically its the same in countries like Iraq and Jerusalem.More people keep ding.Literally like hundreds a day from bombings and suicidal mother f**ers.I truly hope Bush gets impeached before more people die.He ha already sent our reputation to the ground.
