That really depends on a lot of different factors. Only his Doctor could answer that question. There have been cases where people pulled out "barbs" and after treatment where fine. There also have been cases that are the opposite. So, it just depends on each individual case...

No, the barb pierced his heart. And the toxins in the barb would have killed him anyway. Just be happy for him that he died doing what he loved and didnt waste away somewhere. God bless the crocodile hunter

It was a very unfortunate thing that happened to Steve, "Crikey, he was our Crocodile Hunter!!" He was a great loved man, we don't understand how certain things happen the way they do. Regardless the situation or the person the situation happens to...Mainly we question death, how could this happen to whom they are or how it happened. There are going to be different theories of WHAT IF!!! We need to mourn his death, but we also need to remember his family, Teri and the kids, and all the people who so loved him...may his family and many zoo employees and others to continue with his work on conservation...He was a great person, with loads of spirit...He will be greatly missed!!!! that was my first thought, but i heard that because it was in the heart n it was poisoinous barb, , it was a 0 percent chance of survival, only when is in a non vital organ n a non poisonous there is a good cance, the heart is one of the most sensitive organs, unfortunately it is impossible for anyoen to survive,

The barb was pulled out by the stingray... it's a defensive weapon, and it probably happened so fast he never even knew what hit him...

But being stabbed by the stingray bard is like a bolt of lightening. And it pierced him in the heart - I don't think he would have had much of a chance either way.

No, I think it was just a natural reaction to pull it out, something painful impaled in you, you want it out.
