The medication causing the sleep disturbance is most likely the alprazolam, and not the lexapro. Lexapro is a very safe drug for depression with minimal side effects.
However, alprazolam (Zanax) which is a compound of the benzodiazepine class of the central nervous system-active.It is used to treat anxiety. It is highly addictive as well. (Lexapro is not).
Many MD's do not prescribe this drug because of the addictive nature, and there are many other better drugs for sleep and anxiety.
I would suggest that you tell your doctor the concern you have about the sleep disturbance AND ask what the adverse reactions are. Also you should be informed about the physical additiveness of this drug. It is not like a psychologsical dependency; it is usually anavoiable if taken for more than a week.

lol. This is not a big problem, though it is frightening. It happened to me a lot of time. You'll wonder to know that it is also dream that "You are sleeping, dreaming and you can't open your eyes, or not able to move or wake up". Funny?
It might be a problem of the drug, It happens to a lot of people who are not on any drugs. Don't worry, your drug's benefit outweigh side effects anyway. All people taking antidepressants have to face different kinds of side effects. Newer drugs like Bupropion SR, Mirtazapine have better side effect profiles. Talk to your doctor about switching to another drug.
----------------------------------------------
Currently I am taking Lexapro 20mg + Alprazolam. I don't have any problem except sexual dysfunction.

Yes,this can be a side effect. Talk to your DR. He might want to adjust the dose or try a different drug. I know of several friends that take different drugs for depression. One friend is doing so good and she takes Paxil.Another friend is very happy with zoloft.Different drugs for different people, but same problem. Work with your doctor....Depression is more common than you would realize ......you will find a drug/dose that is perfect for you...Don't give up!

this is more likely a result of the lexapro than the alprazolam (i've taken both). a change in dosage may help. discuss it with your doctor. pleasant dreams!

Hell yeah darlin, Any drug used to control or supress different part of your brain can have many effects. You should go back to the docor who prescribed them and let him/her know. If these were normal side effects, the doctor should have advised you before you started.

I'd stop taking drugs...if you didn't even know you were depressed, you probably aren't. It would be rare for a person to not know something was wrong..if you want to take drugs, get some vitamins or aspirin!

"YES; absolutely any drug can alter your sleep patterns."
"Therefore; Medication "or" not if you have your mind on a fixed idea "OR" something esle ; Your brain stores all that information in it's REM state "And Whatever is stored in the brain seems to appear in our dreams." This is no concern for alarm "It is normal..." Sorry, I,m too drunk too spell!"

Yes, that can be a side effect. It shouldn't be harmful, though. If it concerns you, ask your doc about it.
