yes ,make it manditory for all high school grads male and female, make a requirement for entry into college so the rich kids can't use college as a cop out, allow women to serve along with men in combat branches, atleast 2yrs like the isreali gov, best way to get all the young punks who want to join gangs off the streets and homeless run-a-ways .

First of all, you are out in right field with your presented facts about the rich not fighting and the poor being tricked and lied to and then doing all the fighting. There is no hippocrisy in a volunteer military. And while I abhor that which gets away with being called an "educational system" in this country, I can not believe that it is so horrid that it's graduates don't realize that joining the military in a time of war means they may go to combat.
If YOU did not know enough not to enlist then I suggest that you made a mistake. Or perhaps you are one of those inner city kids that skipped the classes on history that dealt with all the nasty little wars and their consequences so that you could go out and cause mayhem. I don't know. I suspect that you're simply a left wing Bleeding Heart Liberal Bedwetter trying to get us to feel sorry for our poor little boys in uniform.
That said,
I support a 100% of the population "draft" with a two year obligation to serve the country with at LEAST 12 months of that two years outside of the United States. You can join the "peace corps" equivalent or the regular military but you serve your country and leave it behind for at least 12 months.
I think there would be a whole lot less bleeding heart liberal bedwetters in the US if every young man and woman saw just how nasty it is in the third world!!!!!!!

No. I am 24, and I have been in the Army for 6 years. I just reenlisted for another 6 a month ago...in Iraq. I am not a recovering drug abuser, an ex con, a struggling escapee from the ghetto, or a mildly retarded country boy that cant find work elsewhere. I joined because I felt that it was my calling. I am the only person in my entire extended family to join the military. I wasn't forced. Neither was the 8 men under my command. You know why these men have risked their lives and run withme towards sniper gunfire? You know why they selflessly run into the street to assist me picking up a wounded Iraqi during a firefight? Because they want to be here. Not neccesarily Iraq, but in the Army. The reason that the US Military is the best in the world is because every person in it volunteered. Hippocracy is complaining about the way things are done, but sleeping comfortably every night, because they are done.

The rich kids or for that matter the middle class kids won't have to do the fighting.
They will do what they have done in the past.
Go to college and get a deferment.
Dick Cheney did it.
http://www.libertypost.org/cgi-bin/readart.cgi?ArtNum=48151
The richest and powerful never suffer.
I turned 18 in 1969.....went to draft board and registered for draft....then got lined up for a physical. EVERYBODY did that part.
After that it was a choice of.....
Go to college.
Flee the country.
File for conscientious objector status.
Join a branch of service in which you are least likely to get shot at.
Claim to be gay.
If these choices are not for you then do what a lot of people did back in the day.....
and that is....hope to God you don't get letter from Selective Service
instructing you to report for military duty.
But if you think MIDDLE CLASS and RICH are going to get drafted at the rate of the less well to do ...guess again.

yes i believe and agree that every male should enlist and give back to his country, for a period of not less than two years after training and school. what i also believe is that everyone who goes into military service is a volunteer and knows exactly what he or she is doing. they know that we are in a time of war, and that they might find themselves in a combat zone and GOD forbid be killed. yet they still volunteer. there might have been a time when "volunteers" didnt know anything. but with mass media answering to nobody these days, volunteers know exactly what is waiting for them on the other side of the grinder. i know what i was getting to, when i stepped up and raised my right hand and took my oath.

I think some of your ideas are "houseshit" (you mean horseshit, don't you?).
But yes.....I think they should reinstate the draft. But a revised type of draft. Alot of countries have a mandatory service obligation, to include Israel. And the women are involved too. Two years out of someone's life in not much to ask to give to your country. And you might even learn something. There are many technical jobs that someone can choose.
Anyways...........yes, it would be a great idea. I have always been a proponent of the draft.

I don’t think that anyone should be forced to fight if they don’t want to, especially if they're forced to fight in a war they don’t support. Also, how many families would be left unsupported if the man drafted is the sole or primary breadwinner?

I'm going to bet that ten years from now it will be mandatory because America is not standing behind it's govt. on the terrorism issue. If it's not dealt with now it will be an all out war later.
