He's really a nice guy, just something of a social misfit.

Depends on the reason he is living there. If he is there to help his mother, then I say good for him.If he is just there to mooch off of her, then it is time he got a life.Perhaps living expenses are too much for both of them.My adult son lives with me(although he is far from 53)and helps with the rent and utilities. It sure helps me out as I am living on disability and it is much cheaper for him than to get a place of his own.

You must be talking about my second husband. No, he actually did move out when we got married. He was a nice guy too, to his friends. He was a real jerk to his mother though and that should have given me a clue. You need to look into the situation and the relationship further. At this point he should be helping her, not the other way around. If he is good and helpful to her and nice with the friends that he does have, it could be ok. Also, keep in mind that now that his mother is older he may not be able to leave her. My ex moved out but had to buy a house less than a mile away in case he had to walk there in an emergency.

53 years old and living with mum? Why not? He is not a social misfit, just a little lonely at times and so need more activities to make his day.

He needs to move out. Living with his mom at 53? He needs to stop mooching off his mother. Thats just rediculous.

Okay, well if he's not disabled, then he's a lazy bastard in my opinion.

And it depends on if the man lives with his mother or if his mother lives with him...I'm assuming it's the first, so yes, lazy.

And then I think, he might have the Oedipus complex.

But it really depends on whether or not he has been independent, ever in his life, and if he has been divorced or not.

I think his mother is probably in her eighties and is lucky to have not been abandoned by the family and stuck in a nursing home like many other elderly people.

I would think that he is taking care of his mother. Unless he proved me otherwise.
If not, everyone has hard times. Not everyone's life is hollywood. We do the best we can. Right?

I think at his age he needs to learn to gain more maturity and deal with life in general. That includes people and responsibility.

Honestly, I don't think much of him.
