if ur natural hair color is black or brown it'll be difficult for ur hair to hold red. blacks n browns best hold lighter shades of brown and golds. if ure a blonde than u'll hold red well. provided u use the right hair products. before coloring massage ur scalp with olive oil the previous night. shampoo and wash off and then colour ur hair. well moisturised hairs shafts enables better penetration of hair colour. use loreal or wella hair products for coloured hair henceforth and massage ur scalp regularly with oil every week. colour tends to get disoriented if the hair is damaged or dry. pop vitamin e or cod liver capsules regularly too retain ur shiny colour.

ok i color my hair red more often then not and i started using a couple diffrent things that seem to have worked really well! i colored my hair red about 3 months ago and the only way you can tell is my out growth.

aveda madder root shampoo and conditioner. its red based, but dosen't staing if yourinse properly.

redkin color stay (something like that) shampoo and conditioner.

redkin sun milk w/ spf. you spray it in your hair before you go out and it stops the fading.

the best thing is none of them are all that expensive and they WORK! and since you switch them out durring the week you don't have to keep buying more and more shampoo. also, don't wash your hair right away, i wait 2 days and then use the red based shampoo for the first few days and then start switching uses after a week and wash my hair about every other day. good luck! and don't give up on red!

Being a colorist of 13 years, there are a few tricks that will help, even though "scientifically" the artificial red tint molecule is large
and therefore has difficulty staying lodged in the cuticle of the hair. You should; *apply touch up application ONLY to the new growth, adding shampoo and "mushing threw" the ends only for the last 5 min. *Try to was your hair every other day at the most, you can rinse (not Hot) but no shampoo every day & sinse your doing your own color, splurge on a good "color treated" Sham.& Cond. (no red ones) that temp. added coating kills shine, and ultimatly pulls color out faster. *use a "protecing" leave in cond. ALWAYS! NEVER LEAVE YOUR HAIR NAKED..Gd'Lck

rinse with cool water helps to seal the cuticle.
Use Stay Red shampoo or conditioner, it helps keep the color bright. Also a UV serum to help the sun and chemicals/pollution from fading. Red is the hardest color to keep in hair, good luck!!!

Red is hard to maintain. "Redken" color-line has the longest longivity for reds; available in salons. All "over-the-counter" (non-salon) reds do not last. There are shampoos and conditioners designed specifically to preserve the red color (Redken, for example, but there are others). Normally, they work, as long as they are professional products (purchased in salons) and used on the on the salon-brand colors.
Some of those shampoos and conditioners might stain your bath-tub, so be careful. Also, if the water is heavy in minerals and salts, it will tend to strip the color faster. Overall, red is a beautiful color, but the hardest one to maintain.

Its normal for red tint to fade within two weeks due to the fact that it has the smallest color molecule of all haircolors thus it has a harder time staying in. I suggest using a color safe shampoo and a conditioner infused with red pigments. Don't wash your hair everyday and be prepared to get your tint touched up every 2 to 3 weeks.

make sure to use a shampoo and conditioner for red hair. Aveda and all the good brands have actual pigment in their conditioners to keep the red there where it belongs. Also, make sure you protect it when out in the sun.
Good Luck.

nah, that's the best you're gonna get really. i use ferria red - with colour boost, it's pillar box the day i do it, but within a week it's fading. The only thing you can do is use a colour mousse or wash in colour to boost the depth if you're going somewhere special. Good luck!

Yeah, I hate that! Did you try a red-based shampoo? Rather than just shampoo for colour, you can buy ones which almost redye the hair and add highlights. Only problem is they are expensive and ruin your towels.
