Because it's a different kind of faith. Gravity is only a theory yet we have "faith" that it's correct. Would you consider gravity to be a religion? No. That's the same way it works with evolution; the evidence is there to back it up.

"One reason I receive the comment about science being a religion is because I believe in the fact of evolution. I even believe in it with passionate conviction. To some, this may superficially look like faith. But the evidence that makes me believe in evolution is not only overwhelmingly strong; it is freely available to anyone who takes the trouble to read up on it. Anyone can study the same evidence that I have and presumably come to the same conclusion. But if you have a belief that is based solely on faith, I can't examine your reasons. You can retreat behind the private wall of faith where I can't reach you."

Because there is evidence for evolution.

For instance, right now, bacteria are evolving in response to anti-bacterial agents.

There are flesh eating bacteria which produce fairly painful and often fatal results. These have evolved strains in the past few decades which are resistant to older anti-bacterial medicines such as penicillin.

Now do you want to stake your belief that evolution doesn't occur by asking for penicillin or a more recent anti-bacterial?

Your choice. That is science.

However there is no evidence for faith other than belief. That doesn't mean that it isn't true, but it simply means that you can't conduct an experiment to prove whether God exists or not.

from Dictionary.com -

faith  /feɪθ/ [feyth]

–noun

2. belief that is not based on proof: He had faith that the hypothesis would be substantiated by fact.

TO BELIEVE IN SOMETHING THAT HAS NO NO PROOF. Sounds like a fundie to me...

Fortunately, science isn't based on faith.

Ok -- Faith is the belief in something that has NO PROOF. Thus, you have 'faith' that it is true.

Science has A LOT of proof backing it up. There is no need for faith. If you take some time and your head out, you can look up different facets of science, evolution, the creation of the universe, whatever.

POOF! there it is has no evidence. It takes faith to believe something with no evidence to support it. It can NOT be refined because not only is THERE NO PROOF, there can never be any proof because 1 second nothing the next second POOF! THERE IT IS.

Evolution has evidence.

No faith needed, it is called a working theory. That means that it works with the facts, if more evidence is found that invalidates it we will refine the theory........see no faith (no complete trust). It works and creationism/intelligent design doesn't.

Please understand the explanation this time typing it over and over is getting old.

EDIT: Still don't get it do you? If you would practice THINKING instead of believing in crap you are spoon fed; if you would be willing to research and learn instead of reading one book and propaganda that supports your false ideas you would see Truth. You do not find Truth through God, you find God through TRUTH.

I am through explaining this to you close-minded, egotistical fools. You will either see Truth or we will step over you in our pursuit of it.

You have to stretch a little, but at least there is some evidence for. It is as good as any explanation so far.

Faith and religion are not the same thing.

Religion denotes a belief in God(s)...you can have faith in anything.

Faith is the belief in something with out the need for proof. There is data to back up the idea of evolution, if there was not then no one would take it seriously.

Haters..Science has no PROOF to support their theories about how the earth was formed and how life began. They have no PROOF on their theories about how all the matter got into the universe in the first place. You have to go on faith just like the rest of us. You have your religion and your scared book is a natural history text. To bad you can't prove it's the truth.... Jim
