A Pastor is a shepherd.

They're little more than two different words that mean the same thing.

The pastor is the head minister or priest of a Christian church. The word itself is derived from the Latin word pastōr which means shepherd.

In Christian churches, a minister is a man or woman who serves a congregation or participates in a role in a parachurch ministry; such persons can minister as a Pastor, Preacher, Bishop, Chaplain, Deacon or Elder.

The concept of a minister was originally derived from someone who sees to the needs of another, similar to a nurse. The name was taken because of the view the church takes toward the role of a church leader. Pretty much the same thing with the term pastor. Although I believe this term originated within the Latin speaking peoples. It translates roughly into 'servant' and is derived from the idea of being God's servant to God's people.

Like the other poster said, pretty much the same thing.

A minister is someone who has gone through the Bible College and gotten a degree in Theology and has gotten his/her papers saying that they are allowed to preach.
A pastor is the one who is the head of the church.
Both can preach and do but the one that is a minister is not on the staff of the church that he/she goes to.
I have been a minister for 20 years and never been on staff. Nor chosen to be.

A Minister is usually an ordained person who works in and for a group called The Church.

A Pastor is the LEADER of the group--kind of like -- the guy who guides the flock. He should guide--not do everything!

Pastors are Luthern. Ministers are of other faiths, eg Methodist.

Pastors also go to a different more strict school to be ordained.
