A lot of times, i'll start feeling really depressed, like i'm a failure, i'll never be good at anything, and i've wasted my life.(i'm 15!) and i have this desire to work until i'm better, but i can't focus. For example, i play guitar. I haven't had lessons in a while, but i've learned quite a few new songs and barre chords. Then i'm hit with this feeling like i'll never be good enough at guitar, like i have to practice forever. So i'll try to help myself for a while, get my guitar and my computer, etc. But i burn out really quickly, and i have this pit in the middle of my stomach, i fell hot and sweaty and fidgety. I try to learn a song, and when it sounds wrong i feel like i can't do anything. I feel like anything i've learned on guitar is not enough. This also then tends to extend to grades, intelligence, weight, sports, basically everything. I have this awful feeling like my life is wasted and over and even though im trying i can't do anything about it because nothing i do is enough

Even true accomplishments don't help, i can't shake the anxious shaky feverish feeling for at least a couple hours. Does anyone know what this is or why?

I dont think it's really depression, it's a different feeling and it doesn't happen very much... it's a physically weak feeling, but there is more of a psycho rush to do things that doesn't allow me to concentrate compounding the original feelings of failure.

If you don't think it is depression it probably is not. You know your body and the way you are feeling.

I would say you suffer from chronically low self-esteem, and maybe some form of anxiety disorder. The fact that you are asking this question means you know that the way you are feeling is irrational (and that is good!) You don't just want to accept that you feel useless or like you've wasted your life. You want to do something to feel better about yourself.

Try talking to an adult you can trust about the way you are feeling. Perhaps even talk to your friends - being a teenager isn't easy and you may find they are experiencing similar feelings to you. I think it is important that you don't just ignore these feelings and hope they will go away, because these sorts of things can plague us through into adulthood (trust me, I speak from experience). Once you gather a support network around you, you could try talking to a GP or a counsellor of some sort if you feel ready to do that.

Keep your chin up, doll, and keep fighting these feelings because you are MORE than worth it!

Good luck.

This is very common and some what normal. You are only fifteen so your hormones are raging and your emotions are literally going everywhere! If you could visually see inside of your mind you would see that there are billions of tiny little cells, and chemicals rushing through your brain at the moment like city traffic! So it's extremly understandable that you are like this. This is causing you stress and discomfort however, therefore you need to work out what to do about it. I tend to think it's not so much depression rather, more that you are a perfectionist! I believe from your symptoms you described that you would have some obsessive traits that come from perfectionism. Look it up it's a real dissorder. It dosen't mean you try to do everything perfect, it is a dissorder. It means that you feel a need to have to do things perfect, to such a point that you become overwhelmed by the pressure that you are putting on yourself to do it perfect. From this you then develop these "depressive" tendencies that cause you to then burn out, and shut down. Which is then classified as a dissorder. Because it is stopping you from doing your everyday/ usual activities.
In high school it is a very common dissorder to see in teenagers. Even the ones that won't admit it, or haven't been diagnosed with it usually have it, as the stress and the pressure from the students and parents become overwhelming. This is a psychological dissorder, therefore it is not something you are born with, and you can solve it easily. First you need to find out what is causing you to feel pressure and then talk too and work out the source that is causing you this pressure. Second you need to understand that this is just emotions; you said it dosen't feel like emotions, however you then went on to describe something that was exactly how fluxes of chemical compounds (known as stress, fear, anger, frustration etc) or emotions feel when you are stressed! You should never allow yourself to become stressed. So how do you do that. Well that brings me to my third and last thing. You need to talk to someone, possibly your school counsellor (if they're not idiots, as most school counsellors are quacks and have little education or understanding of psychology and from this, tend to just prescribe you pills), a parent or good freind (however, these people are not counselors or have the experience to know how to help, or suggestions of what to do), a psychologist, a doctor, or you can even start to try to learn more about psychology and human behaviour yourself. This is my highest recommendation, as this is also something I have seen work the most. You can find alot of information on the internet, although not good information. You would do better asking a career counselor or library; if they know where, or if they can get any books on Psychology, or Sociology etc. Read up on Perfectionists, OCD, depression, Aspergus, Emotions etc and see if you can relate to any of the symptoms. Don't take life or this too seriously, relax your only fifteen! Most people that have been the most successful in life, (ESPECIALLY musicians) have been in their late 20's or 30's before they even started to get a job and get into their industry. You have an outlet; your guitar to relax. However if this is stressing you, because you try too much with this as well. I would suggest; meditation, tai chi, or something like just walking, may be better for a while. Because it will relax your mind and clear out all the stress and crap, to let you think better. Remember though, high school is always something that drives psychologist crazy, because they always say the same thing; if only they could let the teenagers understand that real life (when you come out of high school) is nothing like it seems! That you don't have to stress so much, and that there is this fake mental environment that is created when you are at school, and you believe that this is how everywhere is; because this is all you know. Though this is not true, it is much more sane, and much kinder. So I would suggest you read more on Human behaviour. Relax more, your an artisitc minded and creative person by the sounds of you. So you would tend to stress more, as you probably are always thinking about things, always wondering, and obsessing about things. You would hold high expectations of yourself that are unreasonable and hard to fulfil, and you probably care a lot more about problems in life, that other people ignore. Which would cause you confusion, frustration and stress. Please for purely your own benefit, relax. How do you do this? This will sound silly, but seriously just smile more for one thing, as smiling causes you to release more endorphins in your brain that cause you to feel more happy and appreciative, try to meditate for about 15 minutes a day to clear your mind out, and EAT HEALTHY! This is something that goes ignored very often by medical professionals, and teenagers. What you are eating can seriously effect your mental stability! Your diet can effect your release of emotions and other chemicals in your brain. Junk food has been proven to cause depression. And eating stuff like fast food, alot of snacks or small amounts of food is one of the biggest causes in mental dissorders, with a LACK OF SLEEP being even higher of a cause! The recommended food intake would be at least three meals a day, and eight glasses of water. I would suggest home cooked meals for at least six of those days absolute minimum. With the meals consisting of Rice, Vegetables, Pasta's, Beans, Potatoes, a high source of Iron (be that Meat, or Lentils/ meat substitutes), a high source of omega three and protein (be that in fish, or a substitute) a high source of calcium (be that Milk and Dairy or a Substitute) and breads. You should be getting these in your food groups almost every day! You will feel alot more happier for no particular reason, less irratable (another words will get stressed alot less easy) and will become ALOT more focused with whatever you're doing. I relate to what you are feeling and understand these things, because I suffered from being a perfectionist and from OCD when I was a teenager. I used to be very stressed. But it is not something that stays with you, or how you will be forever! I am a Visual Artist, a singer (but only in the shower) only joking about that one, and I am now studying Medical Science and have studied Counselling and Psychology. I understand why I was like I was. I am nothing like I was then, I completley understand why I was like I was, and I am relaxed now. I love life and I am very happy! I am content, and my mind is just clear and calm, instead of stressed and anxious. I have a very good understanding of Human Behaviour, especially my own, so now I am no longer confused. And I am becoming successful and feel that I understand an exceptable amount about this world, to live more relaxed, so remember you will get happier, and if you keep to whatever is your passion and what you like, then you will become successful and be alot more happy. Good luck, smile and appreciate life more, and take it easy Good Luck Mate! :]
