If Man would rather God not get the glory for deciding who gets the gift of faith, and take that glory for himself in his own almighty decision for God, doesn't that lead to humanist self-reliance in the rest of his affairs?

Hopefully. Not necessarily that I'm against the concept of a God, but honestly, he hasn't done much physically lately. Once we take over for His actions, I think things will go more smoothly. Besides, from your point of view, doing his work (such as feeding the hungry, and the other things people stereotypically pray for) might've been "our purpose" in the first place.

No.
Sin is the cause of our humanistic culture. Human pride specifically calls for us to not want to be under anyone else's authority, especially God's.

Ergo: Humanism
