How do you pronounce jun(4), meaning bamboo shoots? Is it Jun with a "uh" sound, or pronounced "oo" like in "moon"? Any help is appreciated.
And I looked this up on an online Chinese-English dictionary, but the audio thingy didn't work.

Ok- the answers you've gotten so far are good, but I'd like to add my personal interpretation, because that character is part of my name! :)
The person who said "June" is pretty close, but in order to get the accent right, you need to jazz it up a bit. It's like a cross between "June", and "ween" (as in Halloween). So if you combine the two sucessfully, you'd get something like "Jweeun". Remember, it is the fourth tone pronunciation, and only one syllable, so you have to say it short and fast, like you're angry, or something. Hope this helps!

It's not pronounced as JUNE or with an 'uh' sound...
There's an 'r' sound in it...sort of...
The 'u' sounds the same as 'ea' in mean.Then add the 'r' sound after the 'ea' sound...It's rather hard to explain,actually....
I don't know how to explain how to pronounce the 'j'.it's sort of like a 'ch' and 'g' sound mixed up....

It's a very short "uh" with a downward inflexion. And the previous submitter is correct, there's a very tiny R sound in there. "J-uhr-n". Don't draw it out though. Say it quickly and sharply.
