I'm in Alabama but I went to Kentucky for a while and there are alot of them there. I had to watch out for them on their horse and buggy's going down the road. From what I learned they buy a house and tear out the floors, plumbing, electrical stuff basically everything modern. They truly live in the past on purpose, modern things are seen as sinful.

Mennonites and Amish are thoelogically related. They are both of the Anabaptist sect. They reject the strict Calvinist message that was predominate in Central Europe in the 16 and early 17 century. The sect followed the teachings of Minno Simmons after the Peasants Uprising and the Thirty Years War. The are pasifist in veiw of their historical experience with religious persecution. They do not use "modern" technology due to the fact that it separates people from one another.

You might be thinking of Amish. Large Amish population in PA. I come from a town in central California that had a lot of Mennonites, but I never saw them wearing little black hats or old-time dresses.
I think they are theologically close to Baptists. They do not believe in serving in the military.

I sort of miss more formal occasions. I mean, I love not worrying about what I am wearing and I often wear jeans and a T-shirt when I am just out and about. I am not a church-goer, but once in a while I attend when visiting family in VA. And it's an older congregation. Many of the men still wear suits, quite a few wear ties, and almost none of them wear anything more casual than a dress shirt. And I like that. So... I don't generally go to church, but I see where you are coming from. I like having occasions to dress up as well.

My mother's family are mennonite. They don't wear black hats and old time dresses, you're thinking of Amish people.
Mennonites, though, believe in most of the old fashioned values like the Amish. They're just not quite THAT strict.

They are Amish lite. They try to live their lives in the time before all technology and will ride around in horses and buggys and they farm for a living. Mennonites are a little more liberal than the Amish and are sometimes open to using some technology.

It was the influence of the boy band from central PA, Boyz II Mennonites. You know how that goes, one group makes it, and all of a sudden the kids are dressing like them.
