There are apparently some people, on this site tonight, who actually believe this to be true.

If we left now the violence would INCREASE not decrease

Despite how much I detest Bush you are right, leaving won't end fighting. Fighting going to happen whether we are there or not. I think the violence will lessen but not go away. So if fighting is going to happen anyway and so many people don't want us there, why stay? Iraq will most likely end up in three states, A kurdish, a Shiite, and a Sunni. It has been divided that way for years help together by a dictator. I say let them seperate and be somewhat happy. Lets get the hell out and let them fight the civil war that started the day we got there.

If we leave Iraq...good news for us:
1- Our troops and American contractors stop dying.
2- Violence will increase and Muslim Shiite Will win (>80%) of the population. A big vacuum in Iraq occurs and Iran will step in to be in control.
3- Then, it is our chance to kick Iran's butt without any global criticism. At that point, we can win both Iraq and Iran.
But, Bush's Administration is not smart enough to think it this way.

No, it wouldn't stop.
The thing is, we're not really doing anything to stop it, either, so maybe it's time to realize that's just the way things are and give up. It's called losing, and it's what's happening to us whether we admit it or not.
I'd much rather solve the problem than leave. But if we can't get it together, what's the point in staying?
It's time to get serious about things, one way or the other. Either make a bigger committment and try some new strategies (rather than "retiring" the commanders with new ideas), or admit defeat and quit sacrificing our people. "Staying the course" is the worst possible option.

Odd that the war on drugs is still playing with Stateside Marijuana Growers when Afganistan had its biggest year in Morphine manufacturing, or that somehow the terrorist Iraqies just got funded with more explosives than ever before isn't it? And here you are, worried that we might actually be sensible and allow those people to keep blowing each other up without our involvment so we didn't have to buy more pain killing drugs from Bin Laudin and associates in Afganistan?

we wont be leaving iraq and the middle east for years to come ... until china and the US are bosum buddies we wont be leaving the middle east so get used to it ... first the entire middle east will be subjugated and brought inline with US policy and then you will see a confrontation with China if we make it that far without starting a nuclear war before then.

I agree. The Shia in Iraq are biding time until the US leaves. Once we pull out, they are going to revenge the atrocities Saddam comitted. THis is the law of Islam. death for death. It will happen.

it would increase and set a bad precedent.

Actually now that I think about it, I'm sure if we sit down with the insurgents and terrorists that we can come to an amicable agreement. You know how well diplomacy works and how well the United Nations does it's job.

No. The civil/sectarian war will continue. US troops just won't die in it.

And at the end of the process, if we don't like the end result, it will be much much less expensive and must less costly in American lives to deal with that then, rather than leaving the troops there the whole time.

Amen. The U.S. is not the true cause of the Iraq violence, even though we may have initiated it.
