I'm not here to bash anyone, but here are some things the New Testament says:
1 Corinthians 11:6
Indeed, if a woman does go without a veil, she should have her hair cut off too.
1 Peter 2:18
Slaves, you should obey your masters respectfully, not only those who are kind and reasonable but also those who are difficult to please.
1 Corinthians 7:21
Even if you have a chance of freedom you should prefer to make full use of your condition as a slave.
1 Corinthians 14:34
As in all the churches of God's holy people, women are to remain quiet in the assemblies, since they have no permission to speak: it is shameful for a woman to speak in the assembly.
1 Timothy 2:11-12
During instruction, a woman should be quiet and respectful. I give no permission for a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. A woman ought to be quiet.
Do you practice/believe all of these? From what Christians tell me, the Bible is inerrant, so you can't say "that was just one man's opinion."

Admittedly, I do not cover my head. Here is how these things have been explained to me by a host of educated "authorities".
Hair: Women are proud of it , or try to be, and it is pointing out pride or arrogance which is not proper. The women of Corinth were being admonished.
Slaves: Anyone who works for someone is a "slave" (employee) and should do their best at all times whether they like it or not. "A fair days work for a fair wage" - a fair wage is what we agreed to when we took the job - We are free to change jobs or start our own businesse. This passage is addressing life as it was in that period. Making full use of your condition might be equal to us taking advantage of college tuition refund and other benefits of employment.
Women be quiet: women sat on one side of the church and men on the other. They would yell questions/answers to one another. There should be organization in the church.
Men over women: Yes, the husband is over the wife, but Jesus is over the husbund and The Father is over Jesus. But read on, The husbund is to pretty much treat his wife extreme respect, as well as he would want to be treated or better. Women can make decissions on her own when it is best for the family unless they have agreed that they will not do this or that, then the wife cannot do it, but neither can the husbund.
Quiet and respectful during instruction: women as well as men.
In the bible, there are many instances where women speak their mind, rightfully. And purchase land with out consulting her husbund. - when a good deal presents itself, jump on it.
There are examples when a slave is given freedom and takes it. Joseph took full advantage of his captivity and became the highest honored man in Egypt. Given control over almost everything.
No permission to speak: again, this was in Crointh where meetings were out of control. Rules had to be made. This was one of the rules set forth.
We are all guilty of falling short of Gods commandments. That is why HE gives His Grace and forgivness. He sent Christ to save us because we cannot live by the law. He knew that. He knows that still.

Insightful answers tonight. I love this place.
The best way think about the Bible is to try and put yourself in the time when the various sections were written. For example, if I were to tell you that your were 'On the trolley', what would think? At first look that saying is silly and makes no sense; however, when you look at it in its historical context, it means that you have the right idea. And that saying is only about 80 years old!
The first step to an educated view of any literature is to understand the meaning of the writer and not to jump to conclusions on the words since those words don't mean the same thing they did 2000 years ago. The Bible is so complex that you can easily spend years on just a few books. I encourage to take that journey on just one. You will be well reward for the trip.

Some Things in the Bible are to be taken contextually. For example, there no slaves in my country. Do you thinks it applies to me or to anybody in my country?
During the those times Paul wrote to Timothy, they had problems with some women gossiping around so Paul advised not to let women speak. In their times. YES we should follow the Bible, especially the principles behind those advises.

You forgot the times when god slaughtered the little babies, and made men rape their neighbor's wives.
I don't understand how these people write, 'that was the old testament' well then what the heck is it doing in YOUR bible? How could your God change his mind and write another section so different from his original?

No, we should not follow the bible.
The bible has outgrown any possible usefulness (if it ever had any) and it is time for Christianity to fade away like the mythological Gods of Egypt and Greece.

Your examples explain why God gave the primary authority for church government, faith, and morals to the Catholic Church, not to the Bible alone.
The church is authorized to make prudential judgments as to whether certain practices have outlived their usefulness, while the Bible is frozen in time.
The Bible is clear, saying that the church is the "pillar and ground of the truth."
No such claim is made for scripture.

In the examples you've cited, obviously no. But there is some good stuff in there. Christ's Sermon on the Mount is not all bad. Just cherry-pick the good stuff like everyone else does.

You left out the verse from Matthew 19:12 where Jesus tells his disciples they should castrate themselves.
