You need corn and water plus a yeast source. This can be wild yeast.
You make a mash of the corn and water and allow it to ferment.
The fermented mash is placed in a still and heat applied which causes the alcohol to evaporate out. The evaporate is run thru a condenser and the distillate, which is a mixture of alcohol and water is captured.

Nope, you need a few more things.
You start with your corn. You can either malt the corn (malting is partially sprouting) or add malted barley. Malt has enzymes that convert the starches to sugars (cooking does not do this).
Once all the starches have been converted (and you can add additional sugar if you like), you add yeast (this can be baking yeast, beer/wine yeast, or even specifically engineered distiller's yeast). Let it ferment until the yeast has eaten all the sugar available and left behind alcohol. When that's done, strain the chunky bits and toss the liquid in your still and out comes moonshine.
There's a WHOLE LOT more to it than just that, but it's the basics.
Potatoes are traditionally used to make vodka, but you can use corn or plain sugar if you like. You could use them for moonshine, but you don't get as much alcohol out of them as you do corn.

no you'll need yeast among other things, the key part is the still you use, and making sure that your using copper tubing too. However becareful of some receipes and methods for making shine, because some of the old methods used to distill their shine through metal parts that contained lead

well, one can make shine with just sugar and yeast, but the best shine is made with a sour corn mash...you cook the corn to change the starch into fermentable sugar, cool, add yeast to begin fermentation, once it is ripe (sour), you process it through the still and there's your shine.

Go to the liquor store and buy a bottle of vodka. It's easier and not illegal.
