For the past 7 years or so, I need to have chapstick on me at all times. I put chapstick on at least 8 times or more a day. I can tell when my lips need hydrating. I'm pretty sure I have a mental addiction to it because if I leave the house without chapstick, I will have to go somewhere to buy some or come back home. Can your lips become conditioned to need the chapstick?

I have seveal laying around the house. So when ever I need one, one is close by. I have been told its not really good for you. But I can't stand my lips dry.

Your body has learned to be dependent on the chapstick for hydration. Stop using the chapstick and eventually your body will hydrate your lips as needed. The same thing can happen with people who use nose spray.

I wouldn't have thought so, but I have a close friend who carries chap stick with him at all times as well. I can't believe that his lips are that dry all the time. I don't think your lips can become conditioned to it's need, it's the person like your self who's conditioned to it's use. But at least it's not a harmful addition and so what it's not hurting anyone or you.

The answer is actually yes.... well sort of...Many chapsticks contain alcohol or medication that can in turn dry out your lips even more causing you to continue to reach for them. Try to find something that is all natural and contains no medications or alcohol

Try to hold your lips together from time to time to hydrate them.

I have several friends that are the same way. One told me that is the way he broke his coke habit. I don't really think it is a mental thing as much as a physical thing.

I know I am...I have to have blixtex at all times. The bright green tube, don't know why but it feels good. Hope it's not unhealthy, but it's not like I eat it or smoke it. LOL!
