You do not have insurance UNTIL he graduates from BASIC TRAINING.

The military memeber must set it all up. YOU can not.

You don't actually get an insurance card, you just use your military ID. If you don't have that yet, you can call the recruiting station wherever you live and ask them where the nearest place to get your ID card is. (You may have to go for a bit of a drive to your nearest military installation.)
It's been a few years since my husband was in BCT, but he should enroll you in what's called the DEERS system, and that should get your Tricare set up for you. So basically, he should take care of it all for you within the first couple of weeks, as I recall. I don't think you'll have to do much, but you will need to look at the Tricare website to select a doctor in your area who is a Tricare provider. If you're not using a military facility, you may have to pay some portion.
You do not have to wait until he has finished Basic to get your insurance. I was pregnant when my husband went off to BCT, and was able to use the benefits right away.

Once you get the package in the mail with all the paperwork, consider yourself enrolled into DEERS and automatically on TRICARE Standard.

In that package, should be authorization for you to go to any military installation and get your ID card. There will be a list of what you will need, but it's always a good idea to call ahead anyway.. some places only do IDs by appointment, for instance, or have limited hours.

You may enroll into TRICARE Prime either in person or online as soon as you get your ID. Only you can determine which is better for your individual needs.

For the most part, there are no insurance cards.. your ID will be sufficient.

He'll do all the paperwork for Tricare when he in-processes at Basic Training. Call his Recruiter and see if it is done. The system you'll be put into is called DEERS.
You'll have to go to the ID card place on post and get your ID card before the clinics can let you use them.
Good luck with Army life! We've been living it for close to 10 years now. It's defiantly different.

He's going to have to get you enrolled in the DEERS program on his end. Once thats done, he can talk to his personnel section about getting you the paperwork for an ID card. Then, he goes to the judge advocate generals office, gets a power of attorney for you. Mails it all to where your staying. Make some phonecalls and find out the closest military installation, guard or reserve post that makes ID cards, and go get one made. Then you have to contact tricare, inquiries can be made online. And you should be in bussiness then.

This is all assuming your currently not close to him, which I assumed you where not.

He will set up tricare while he is at BCT. Its part of the whole inprocessing part. Matter fact he has prob already set you up on it. After he files all the papers you should get a the cards in the mail. You wont have to do anything on your end.

your husband needs to check and see about a deers form you can get insurance while he is in basic cuz i had it when he joined and was in basic ask him about that and when he gets you put on the deers form have him mail or fax that to you and take that to a military base if you are near one cuz you have to get your pic and stuff taken but if you are not close to a military base then you will have to wait until your husband and you finally get stationed somewhere so if you are able to get to a military base take that deers form and they will take your pic and make you a card on the spot and you will be able to use your insurance if need be the same day. I hope this helps

the service member usually has to have that taken care of he has to have his dependents enrolled in deers and usually you have to go to a military base for that and he wont have the benefits for dependents until he successfully completes basic.
