Why does loss continue to touch a life after many years past without it being felt? Knowing that we suffer as we do, why does our minds eye continue to trigger the memory?

Seems to me that there are two reasons for this, which both boil down to . . . longing:

1. When we find something comforting and we need comforting and that something/ someone is not there to console us, we feel and remember that which is missing or lost . . . as an empty hole or a puzzle with the piece missing that completes it.

2. In some cases, it is the unfulfilled or incomplete future that gnaws at us. Our dreams unrealized. Wondering and longing for what might have been--what should have been; but, per fate, isn't.

because unlike computers you cannot erase anything from the human brain, and when stimulatred in a particular way it will instantly recall any memory.

Don't knock it, it will happen to us all at some time in our lives and we will be thankfull it is this way.

Lose a child... walk where millions of other parents have and if you can figure it out, please let me know. I believe I will mourn the loss of my son until I die.

because when a person loses someone close to him he will basically lose a part of him/herself in a emotional way. because that person had an affect on them and made them feel either happy or made them feel loved or secure.

Whatever it is, was meant to be in your life. Just sometimes not for as long as we'd like.
