Depending on how long your hair is now (and how tall you are) it may only take 3 years to go from chin length to waist. It could take 5 or 6 if your hair grows slow and you're really tall. Hair grows faster in the summer than in winter. My advice is do NOT trim the ends...... just take good care of it, shampoo with mild shampoo, condition well, use a good leave-in product for finishing that contains cyclomethicone. Or silicone. anything that ends in -cone, because it makes the hair very easy to comb, soft & shiny, less likely to tangle and helps keep in moisture. Use a brush with plastic ball-tipped bristles that bend when they hit a snag instead of ripping through it. Do not blow-dry, unless necessary once in a while. do not use tight rubber bands, use only soft elastic coated bands loosely or lightly wound around it. Don't bleach or dye it. Don't pull it tight into ponytails or tight braids. Avoid chlorine. When it reaches the length you want, it will have grown long and healthy.

For women puberty, pregnancy and menopause play important parts in determining hair growth. Many researchers say that there can be as many as 2500 hair follicles per square inch but less than 100 hairs will be showing at any given time.
there are three stages of hair growth – Anagen, Catagen and Telogen. It can take 6 to 12 weeks for a hair to grow from the matrix, or papilla, to the surface of the skin.
These cycles can vary somewhat from individual to individual. It is extremely difficult for anyone to predict, the exact length of time for hair growth waist long.

For some people- it is not possible because hair stops growing at a certain point. If you are able to grow it that long it would take about 3 years depending on how long it is now. Long hair is a pain in the butt and very high maintenance.

Probably 2-3 years. Hair grows on average .5 inches per month, and then trims take some of that off and you have to keep it trimmed some times to keep it healthy to keep growing.
What about hair extensions?

Hair grows at an average of 3/4 inch per month - so depending on how long your hair already - you know how long it would take :)

Hair typically grows a half inch a month, and a little faster in the summer. That should help you figure it out.

Some people can grow hair, others can't. Genetics?
You might just have to try it out and find out.
It takes me months to grow one inch. Maybe it wont take you as long.
Good luck
