All the opium based ones do cause depression, but what can my doc give me that won't make me worse? Ihave tried all over the counter ones and they don't work. I have recurring pain from multiple sclerosis, and don't know what to do at times. Please don't say "smoke pot", I have grandkids that are often in the house.

It sounds like you are into the big boys of pain control. Are you on anti-depressants? One thing you can do is to increase any anti-depressant medication you are on. If you are already on an SSRI for depression, all I could suggest would be a stonger anti-inflammatory, such as Diclofen.

No. They do not feel the sense like we humans do. This is because we have a central nervous system running through our vertebra (backbone) which sends messages to our brain. This means that if if our leg is hurt, we feel the pain at the top brain. On the other hand, the insects are non-vertebra and they do not have central nervous system. Thus if an ant's leg is crushed, only the leg will feel local pain. Moreover, their pain magnitude is short, since they produce large number of off springs and their life is short. They can also reproduce their lost organs. It has been observed that if you cut a cockroach's head, it will die after a month due to starving. Scientists have cut a lobster's leg and feed him, which he ate. It is also true that except for human beings no other animal is aware of its existence.

Neurotin is often a good choice. You take it all the time and it controls the pain.

Also as suggested see a psychiatrist to get good depression control. Depression is treatable and depression causes muscle pain on its own. So do take antidepressants such as SSRIs or the new ones life Effexor, Wellbutrin etc.

You DON'T need to suffer.

Best wishes.

This is a question for the professional. There are specialized pain clinics if your family Physician cannot help. Amytriptaline is a tri-cyclic anti-depressant which is the only one in it's class to increase the pain threshold. It is not the easiest to take due to side effects (sedation is one) but has helped chronic pain sufferers eg Fibromyalgia
Please do not depend on answers here alone but discuss with your doctor and ensure your depression is being treated also

There is one new medication that is an anti-depressant that also can treat acute pain such as some from arthritus and other pains. Cymbalta is the name.

It is FDA approved to treat Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathic Pain. Other unofficial uses is for fibromyalgia, pain in the muscles, ligaments, and tendons – the soft fibrous tissues in the body.
Also, possibly Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It would probably be perfect for you accept that it is primary used for depression.

Try a 'scrip for one of the stronger NSAIDS.
Yeah, they all work 'about the same' but some are noticeably stronger than others. Watch your tummy though. Take on a full stomach.
