They dont' have to wear it all the time Actually they can show the face, so technically they don't have to wear a burka. a head scarf is sufficient. covering the face isn't mandatory.
The verse dealing with covering the body is can be viewed

They dont' have to wear it in front of people they can't marry and the husband. So in front of brothers, uncles, father, sons, nephews. ..and other women or strangers that are too young prepubescent.
One thing to note, you may not be aware of is women that are old.. don't have to cover their hair even infront of strangers but most choose to as it is preferable.

"Such elderly women as are past the prospect of marriage,- there is no blame on them if they lay aside their (outer) garments, provided they make not a wanton display of their beauty: but it is best for them to be modest: and Allah is One Who sees and knows all things."

Actually, most muslim women do not wear the burka, the Hijab and Niqab are more popular. The burka is only required in the gulf states, and the ex-taliban government (I think, correct me if I'm wrong).

I personally don't wear a burka at all. I take my scarf off in the presence of immediate male family members like husband, father, brothers, uncles, grandfather and my father-inlaw. These people are allowed to see your hair.

They just need to if a guy who isn't from the family comes around.
Its nonsense though. The Koran never mentions totally body covering let alone hair or head covering.
Egyptians don't wear this nonsense only the most extreme muslim groups do.

Most American Muslimahs do not wear burqa, which is the full covering from head to toe, with just a slit for the eyes. I think perhaps you meant Hijab, which is the typical scarf covering you see in America.
No, it is personal choice to unveil at home around what is called mahram, or immediate family. It is perfectly acceptable at home.

I agree with Marisa. She said it all... At first, i wore my Hijab (head scarf) because of what the Koran said, but now, i think i look prettier and more graceful wearing it.
In fact, in my country, we have improvised the Hijab to be more elegance and wearable. It comes in many colours and prints. We can be as fashionable as those in Paris...
And of course, back to the question, yup, we uncovered our hair at home. Its like an overcoat you'll take off when you reach home.

Thank you for your question.
And no, you don't have to wear the Hijab (Islamic covering) around certain family members. Or specifically, any male in your family that you would never be able to lawfully marry.
This includes your father, brother, grandfather, son, nephew, brothers of your father, and brothers of your mother.
It is permissible to remove the Hijab around any woman, whether she is related to you or not. Just as long as there are no men around.

first of all, ALLAH, QURAN AND MUHAMMED-pbuh said COVER UR PRIVATES, THEY DID NOT SAY WEAR BURKHA. ALL THEY SAID WAS -- BE MODEST AND GAURD UR PRIVATES FROM SOMEONE NOT MEANT FOR U. the idea of wearing a burkha developed just a few hundred years ago. THERES ONLY HIJAB & thats a part of MODESTY. thats ur CLOTHES AND UR ATTIRE.
first for ur answer, it all depends on the kind of societies u live.
u would have seen some muslim women not wearing any burkha, some wear only Head scarves, some cover themselves fully from head to toe. depends on the society and comfortability of a person. when i visited India, then inspite of people being a non-muslim, i saw them covering their women from other men. it all depends on the society we live, in conservative societies people would not like to single out themselves from others.
remember, a woman's adornments are richer then the riches of Heaven and earth combined. safe gaurd ur bodies and chastity.
no religion says display ur skin and flaunt urself as far as i know..
and it also depends on WOMEN. but ALPHA MALES IN ALL SOCIETIES do tend TO DOMINATE. In conservative socities like India, even though they are non-muslims they prefer to cover their women.
clothes were meant to cover our bodies not display them, right?
ever taken a keen look at the image or statue of Virgin Mother Mary? was she ever shown with robes even above her ankles? she always covers her head, ever had the time to notice? why do u think she practised covering herself?
that very same reason is why a muslim woman is allowed to cover herself. freedom does not come by displaying the skin and talking the talk. it is the responsibity and trust people have in u. it is in u showing to carry ur elegance and grace of WOMANHOOD.
people may say that we carry bombs in my hijab, we ofcourse feel hurt but we forgive them, but that would not stop us from covering myself. i respect that u stand up for what u beleive and i will stand up for what i beleive. also when u stand up for shedding a small part of ur clothes, then i stand up for covering my body.
can u give me one religion that says, go along and shed ur clothes? if people say that it is freedom, then they are not practising their faith well. it is just not only in islam, it is in all religions -- to be modest, both men and women..

but i undestand what you are trying to say, and yes women can uncover their hair infront immediate family ( brother, father ) not any one else.
and there's no such thing as Burka.
