When BA are on form they are one of the world's best airlines, possibly the best. When they having a bad day they are awful. People seem to either love them or hate them.
Your flight experience will depend largely on the cabin you are travelling in. First Class is excellent, a very personal and well thought out service although some of the seats are starting to look a bit long in the tooth. BA's business class, Club World, was the first in the industry to offer flat-bed style seats and is still an excellent product. I would especially commend the Sleeper service that runs on late night flights across the Atlantic. Premium Economy, World Traveller Plus, is very nice and probably provides the best value for money of any class. The seat is as good as you would have found ten years ago in business class. Finally economy class. World Traveller is a solid product, not amazingly good, but better than most US carriers and superior to charter.
One thing I will say is that BA take your safety very seriously. I work at the pointy end and can honestly say that safety decisions overide all other considerations. I would have absolutely no concerns putting my nearest and dearest on a BA flight.

Oh, you-betcha, some of the best flight experience I've ever had.
Then again, I was seated in the super-swanky "Envoy-Class", which is even beyond First Class (and like $5,000 a seat).
Either way, the regular coach class is pretty nice - especially on the longer, cross-ocean flights, where you'll get to watch a movie and get fed once or twice.
Service is resonably quick, food is actually real decent, the crew (on the few flights I was on) was very nice, and the seats were great.

BA is an excellent, premium world class airline. Like all airline experiences though it will be a subjective one depending on the crew, the weather, your experience on the ground and indeed your general frame of mind. All these variables aside, BA do a very good job and are highly recommended.

My wife and I have traveled extensively with them. They try very hard to please and the food isn't bad. I give them a 7.5 out of 10 for consistency.
