I appreciate the answers to my previous question, and am well aware that this will require medical intervention. One complication is that I have to make a 7-hour drive in 3 days. There's no one else who can drive me, and it can't be delayed. Any short-term tips to help me get through this?

I use to drive 1201 miles one way to pick my kids up in the summer. What I found effective is to loosen the belt SLIGHTLY,so that it will still protect you in an accident. Also do not put the shoulder strap on,it causes me to feel "trapped".Make sure your door is unlocked,(unless ou are driving in town or a strange town, then you should lock it to prevent attempted car theft etc). This makes me feel less restrained.under NO CIRCUMSTANCE should you take any medication or drink any alcohol,(you probably know that all ready, but I have to add that,it is the nurse coming out in me).Pray and have a safe trip.I always pray when I drive any distance,it makes me feel safer.

Good Luck.

Find a good webseite that deals with phobias and read the tips. Putting a rubberband on your wrist and snapping it when you get nervous helps. Always have water on hand. Breath through your nose, out of your mouth. When you inhale make sure your stomach pushes out as the air comes in. All in all, breath the right way. It helps. Spray your car with your favorite perfum. Play your favorite music and make sure your car is at a good temperature. Just tell yourself that it is only a belt and that you can get through it.

We all have something we are afraid of, you'll get past it. If you believe in God, ask him for help. He'll get you through it.

I can get claustraphobic really easily and have had seat belt issues. It sounds stupid, but DON'T LOOK AT IT! Also pulling the shoulder strap away from your neck if it touches is good. Wish I could be more helpful...

Any buses going your way?
If not, when the trip is over look for help.
Maybe you can get to see your FP urgently before you go and ask him for suggestions. Explain urgency to his receptionist
