After three tours of duty "Incountry", and after hearing, seeing, and reading the old "Stars and Stripes" news paper, i really beleive there are a large number still alive and still there. Probably married, and living a good life.

Oh! Ed that's a bad loaded Q. I have to say if you did 3 tours in Nam you have a problem from the get-go. Never met a Viet Vet that served like you say you did that didn't have lots of problems.....PTSD is #1.

Men had to volunteer to do what you say you did and most times the Gov. wouldn't let you unless you were a REFM. Not much stress.

Bless your heart if you did 3 tours! I do know some guys who did serve "in-country" for 3 tours and they are crazy. Yeah, I think there are some fellows still living in Nam....Let it go! There's always been men who stayed behind after a war.

God Bless Our Troops

Maybe?

I saw TV show a few months ago about deserters from the Korean war! The US had at least a dozen POW's how wanted to stay in China. Many did, they got jobs, did propaganda during 'Nam and even married locals.

I know of at least one CIA star on the wall that belonged to a ex Agent who was captured trying to save folks in Saigon in the 1975. He was tortured and killed. There are also known cases of US & UN POWS held in North Korea & China after the Korean war.

The Russians kept some German Pows like fighter ace Erich Hartman in gulags as late as 1955. 10 years after WW2......

Many think that there are still POWs in Vietnam. There was still a few in Russia after the Korean War in the late 1980s that came to light when the U.S.S.R. folded. There was reports that a few who went awol in Vietnam went into the North Vietnam and are living there today.

I imagine there are a few deserters who living a quiet life there. I doubt there are any Americans who are being held against their will, the Vietnamese people have really moved on and put that conflict behind them.
