People would lie for attention or to avoid the truth that may cause embarrassment.

In general, I cannot answer this for everyone; I can however, tell you why I have intentionally lied in the past.
1. Pride -
Basically to protect my ego from what I feared others would have thought of me.
2. To avoid injuring another's feelings -
At the time I thought it best to momentarily spare them from the (at least what sometimes seems to be) cold hard and ugly truth. Or at least to avoid the feeling of being the guilty party.
3. Manipulation and/or personal gain -
Attempts to avoid negative consequences (punishments) also fall into this category. Also to inflate my own ego/impress others I have "stretched" the truth a bit . . .
When it comes down to it, every reason I have ever lied was selfish and childish. Nevertheless, I have, and the above were the reasons why.

I'm a totally honest person and really don't lie, especially ones to hurt others. I have lied about small things at times, on purpose to protect someone from hurt, those little white lies to keep a person from knowing something until the time comes for them to know. We all do it. That's the intention other than that, I tell the truth to the extent of making issues for myself........peace & love......

I intentionally lie to cover my a s s or to advoid hurting someone elses feelings. I don't lie often, but that is why I do it.

today, people hardly know or care about the difference between a truth and a lie. just ask clinton.

Because whoever it is that is lying is just plain Nasty and Hateful. I have found that a lot of people on this site are Nasty and Hateful for no good reason.

No I wouldn't, I just wouldn't cause I was educated not to lie... I just can't lie, I know it sounds ridiculous, but I just can't, I'd die of guilt

TO save myself and anyone who deserved to be saved. Lying for a good cause is as good as doing the good.

sometimes we lie to get the job or to get beautiful woman go with us into our realitionship
