Dieting is not about simply eating less. Eating any one kind of food only for a long time is bad because it doesn't give you the viriety you need.

There are a lot of good answers above...

If you a re eating REAL tuna and salmon, you might be ok, but if you are eating canned stuff, look at the ingredients- is the salt and/or chemicals added?

drinking lots of water is good.

the part about all sorts of OTHER nutrients would be good, have you thought of taking vitamin A E C D B's etc. as well?

No one mentioned getting a weigh scale with the body fat monitor on it - ($30 ) this scale will tell you if you are loosing FAT, because you do NOT want to loode you muscles and kidneys and liver etc. , which, on a protien diet, often go FIRST ! ( very bad ) - only loose weight if ist is fat, ans use the scale to check each day.

YES, this is a modified ATKINS diet ( protien ), and you would loose weight. But as everyone states, it is severe - check with a fat percentage weigh scale, and take vitamins as well- only loose real fat, and of course, exercise -- noting that the first 20 minutes do not count ( you body must exercise for 20 minutes to kick into burn the fat mode ). Also note that you may be eating something like huge amounts of SALT if you use canned products... If you use frozen whole fish, you can avoid the salt.

Try the Southbeach ( using a fat % scale ) but ease into it over 2 weeks or so, and use the "principles" rather than the exact recipies, and you may do better over the long term...

5 pounds is a lot to lose in 1 week. If you lose too much weight too soon, then your skin may become saggy, which can only be fixed by gaining weight or getting plastic surgery. Try to aim for 1 pound a week.

You need to eat a balanced diet. Tuna and salmon are good for you, but you should also eat plenty of veggies and fruits as well, plus grains.

Why not try eating salmon with brown rice and veggies and eat a bowl of mixed fruit for dessert?

The point is, don't choose a diet where you can only eat one thing because then you'll be tempted by the foods you normally eat. Eat a healthy diet and occasionally eat a small portion of the foods you normally eat so that your weight doesn't fluctuate (i.e. gain 10 pounds, lose 7 pounds, gain 4 pounds, etc)

Yah but tuna contains mercury. If you eat that much in one week it might make ya stupid. *joke*

What's got you so desperate that you gotta lose 5 lbs in one week? That's not a very healthy way to do it. Along with the tuna and salmon, try an all raw veggie all raw fruit diet for a week with lots of water. At least your body will be getting most of it's nutrients that way. Personally I just go to the cambridge diet if I need to lose 5 lbs in a week. Medifast can do the same thing too but it costs twice as much.

Well, you have the protein and the fat, but where's your carbs? Fruit? Veggies? You need all of these. It's not a matter of will this help you lose weight because it will, but it's not healthy. You won't be getting the proper nutrients and minerals you need for your body to function normally. If you want to lose weight, do it the smart way and eat. No less than 1200 calories and if you want to stick right at 1200 calories for the week, that would work better than almost starving yourself.

You're starving your body. When your body is starving, it begins to break down muscle. Not fat.

If you eat six balanced meals throughout the day, and stop eating before eight PM, you will lose weight faster than all get out. Eating six small meals a day will reduce your urge to binge and eat not-so-healthy things. Also reward yourself every sunday (Or as my friend did, every monday) with a treat for doing a good job the past week.

You need to eat healthy, make sure you drink 8-10 FULL glasses of water daily. Go for walks instead of jogs. Walking burns more calories than running or jogging. Especially in the evening.

Er, no matter how many pounds you lose it still isn't good for you. The body needs a healthy balance of vitamins and minerals, if it's only getting fish and water then you're getting -some- and not getting the rest. Definitely a bad idea, try balancing your meals and exercising regularly instead of eating just fish. Not a good idea.

That will be way too much fish in a week. Don't do that. Eat sensibly, stay active and you can SAFELY lose 5 pounds in 2-3 weeks. That's better.

you may lose up to 5 lbs in water-weight, but you won't be losing fat. by not eating a balanced diet, your metabolism is going to slow down and you won't be able to lose fat at all. the only way to burn fat and lose weight for real is by eating a healthy, balanced diet and exercising. however, if all you're looking for is a short-term weightloss, the tuna trick will work...but just remember, it's only water and muscle weight, not fat.
