Exercise that involves you being upright, eg running, walking etc is one of the best things you can do because it uses your own body weight as resistance. When your on a bike, a rower, anything where your sitting, most of your weight is put on the seat. But when your upright, all your weight is on your legs. It's like putting your weight onto dumbells, legpresses etc except it benefits your whole body. You use your weight as a way of loosing weight.

Now I don't know about everyone else, but I tend to find that swimming produces some of the most aches and pains afterwards. Muscles you didn't know you even had start to ache. It's a lot more physical to swim a distance, then it is to run the same distance. But it's not really sustainable. So a mix of these I think is your answer.

Personally, I love Tae Bo. I know there are a million videos, and a ton of Tae Bo itself, but the 8 minute work out is awesome. It gives you everything at the same time. You would be surprised at the sweat you can work up in under 10 minutes. I saw quick results.
