There is a saying about this Darryl. "The smallest thing you should put in your ear is your elbow" If you need to remove wax, don't use a cotton bud which most people think is ok. It generally succeeds in pushing the wax further in. Off you go to the doctor, tell him/her what the problem is and your ears will be examined. If there is a problem, your ear will be syringed and in a few seconds, it will be clear and you will realise the effect the wax had on your hearing

Know the following, ear wax is a great thing to have as it moisturise the ear canal and is a strong insect repellant, in fact people who have scaring from repeated swimmers ear(otitis externa) make very small amount or even none, and the ears can attract insects to enter (for wormth) and that may be quite annoying. Let me tell you the answer though and I advise all my patients to do that----their is over the counter drops called DEBROX-- they can help great deal to reduce the hard wax build up and if initially you may need an ear irrigation at your doctors office. IF YOU USE this medication one drop each ear on a WEEKLY BASIS (LINK IT TO YOUR MONDAY MORNING ROUTINE) will indeed decrease the build up successfuly in the future. and remember that Q tips ARE NOT ALLOWED INSIDE THE EAR CANAL AS THEY WILL PUSH THE WAX FURTHER IN and will make it harder to remove---also hydrogen peroxide is another good alternative.

Invite some earwigs over for dinner! LOL
Many products in marketplace for wax removal.
Doctors perform an irrigation by flushing warm solution in canal only if minor infection is found.
While in shower you can pull back ear skin and let water enter into canal for a minor flushing.
NEVER INSERT A FLUSH BULB TIP INSIDE AS IT MAY GO TOO DEEP AND PUNCTURE DRUM!
Read what others say here.

You can never get rid of ear wax, but you can reduce buildup by using sweet oil or hydrogen peroxide poured into your ear canal, then allow it to drain out. I have also heard of people having "ear candling" done to pull out excess wax (see link below). You can also lay your head down in warm bath water to keep the wax loosened and prevent buidup.
Whatever you do, don't put a Q-tip into your ear... it pulls some out, but pushes most of it further in.

I use a few drops of hydrogen peroxide. The trick is to put it in one ear and then lay down with that ear facing upwards for about 5 minutes. Be care when you sit/stand back up because the excess Hydrogen Peroxide will drip out and it can stain clothing.

Most physicians use jets of carefully-controlled water to rinse out the ear canal and remove impacted wax. Ear specialists use a magnifying scope and a small instrument to remove wax.

Get some drops made to remove ear wax.
Or drop a few drops of white vinegar down your ear twice a week.
