I'm not a doc, but my wife has RA. Prednisone is a class of steriod and you should look for a good doc who can get you on a medication that will allow you off of the Prednisone. Different people react to different drugs. She has used Methotrexate, Enbrel, and many others. Humira seems to work for her. The down side is the cost, and it takes a number of weeks do see if a drug will work for you. Good Luck

Find the heated pool that is closest to your house. It might be a gym or a community college, it might be a friend's apartment house. Go into the pool EVERY day. Just start by walking back and forth, walk sideways, then start paddling around. Mt best friend had MIRACULOUS results with this kind of regimen. Daily tai chi can also be as effective but the key to thye whole thing is: Sustained, gentle motion ........... yoga or hard aerobics etc etc and walknig will NOT do what I am talking about. It has to be a kind of all body motion, gentle, sustained. Why? It brings new blood everywhere, lubricates your joints, smooths muscle tissue, reduces INFLAMMATION. This really works. You have to go every day and most people about 4 months have a HUGE break through window. Some as early as two weeks. I hope you do this! It works! Good luck.

I wish I had an answer for you. What a terrible thing you are going through, my heart and prayers go out to you and your family.

I don't know how much good this might do in your case, but when I had a severe knee injury and they told me they could do nothing-live with the disability and the pain, I started taking 3000 mg of Coral Calcium with magnesium, and have heard that others have had similar success with Shark Cartilage capsules. I only am in pain or limited now if I quit the Coral Calcium. Since I know almost nothing of your disease, I don't know if this might help you also. But since both things are pretty harmless, perhaps it wouldn't hurt to try?

You are an amazing person to do all you do while feeling so awful! Take care, Blessings to you.
