While vsiitng my fiances parents in Puerto Rico for a week I met their first one and only Grandson. His name is "Numaury".

They dote on him continually and shamelesly to the point where it makes a visitor want to heave at times.

He is about 3 years old. Apparently he can do no wrong.

While his Grandmom was holding him he wrenched off her glasses and twisted them into a pretzel like shape and tossed them on the floor which evoked laughter and encouragement from both Grandparents!!!!

Then, later on after dinner I saw him calmly pull down his shorts and urinate agains the wall in the Living Room to his Grandparents utter delight !!!!!!!!!

What is wrong with her parents?

Is this some strange Puerto Rican custom to allow childen to urinate and "defacate" in the house...becuse that's exactly what he did later on in the kitchen, again to the Grandparents delight he squatted down and ...

They told me that was a sign of "Good Luck"!

What's with Puerto Ricans

Oh dear dear dear....is something wrong with this child? Nooo,..probably nothing a good spanking and a few rules wouldn't cure. It's not the Puerto Ricans. It's the Grandparents. I really dislike parents and grandparents that shamelessly spoil a child like that. I do hope that you and your fiance will not be raising your children in that.manner nor allowing their granparents to treat them like that. I've raised three sons and all of them have good manners...We've always said that kids are like puppies. If you don't train them they'll piddle on the rug...and this puppy has. good luck.

I am both a Puerto Rican and a parent of a small child. It is unfortunate that you chose to ask "what's with Puerto Ricans?". Perhaps then people should ask "What's with Americans?" when they see behaviors from low-life, low-class, uneducated people. People are not defined by their nationality or culture. There is no such thing as a culture of child-rearing. You just have the bad luck of having incredibly inept, irresponsible (and frankly, incapable) in-laws. Please do not assume all Puerto Ricans are a certain way or raise their children similarly. Would you assume all Americans raise their children the same way, without taking in account education, morals, age and generation, values, manners, their own upbringing and even geographical area?

I cannot stand parents like that!! Then when the kid gets older he'll probably be whooping their *** and treating them like sh*t because he didn't get disciplined when he was little. What the hell is wrong with those people? If I would have did just one of those things my mom would have wore my *** out! These are the same type of parents that let their children's bad behavior disturb others without so much as saying a word. I honestly don't think that the situation you were in had anything to do with the people being Puerto Rico. They just seem to be those type of parents. How very annoying! I don't know how you were able to get through that without screaming...lol.

i don't think has anything to do with Puerto Ricans. Maybe this child has some sort of social issue that makes him a special case. Or maybe his parents had a hard time concieving and so everyone is so happy he's here...and not concerned as much with his behavior. I think you should talk to your fiance. If he/she thinks the nephew's behavior was ok, then you may want to rethink bringing children into your relationship.

A lot of cultures are much more lenient toward children than in N. American cultures. That seems pretty extreme, but I wouldn't judge all Puerto Ricans by that one family. I know plenty of Anglo people who let their kids run wild and I don't hear people say, "what's with white people?"

I think you are not being truthful. And if so, then I'm sure that not just Puerto Ricans let children rule the household. Your fiance's family home must reek real bad. PS: I would thrash the little monster, and then his parents also.

I'm not familiar with how things are done there, but if a child of mine acted that way he wouldn't be able to sit down for awhile.
